Class 9 Physics Revision Worksheet-1
Class 9 Physics Revision Worksheet-1
PHYSICS
CLASS 9
Important points to remember:
✓ Define the laws of motion in formal NCERT text book language.
✓ For numerical: Step marking will be there. So, write formula, show conversion of unit
(if required), express final answer (in decimals, do not leave the answer in fraction)
with units.
6. Using second law of motion, derive the relation between force and acceleration. A
bullet of 10 g strikes a sand-bag at a speed of 103 ms-1 and gets embedded after
travelling 5 cm. Calculate
(i) the resistive force exerted by the sand on the bullet
(ii) the time taken by the bullet to come to rest.
7. A motorcar is moving with a velocity of 108 km/h and it takes 4 s to stop after the
brakes are applied. Calculate the force exerted by the brakes on the motorcar if its
mass along with the passengers is 1000 kg.
8. Give Reasons:
(a)Some of the leaves may get detached from a tree if we vigorously shake its branch.
(b) You tend to fall in the forward direction when a moving bus brakes to a stop and
fall backwards when it accelerates from rest.
9. A bullet of mass 10 g travelling horizontally with a velocity of 150 m s–1 strikes a
stationary wooden block and comes to rest in 0.03 s. Calculate the distance of
penetration of the bullet into the block. Also calculate the magnitude of the force
exerted by the wooden block on the bullet.
10. The velocity-time graph of a ball of mass 20 g moving along a straight line on a long
table is given in the following graph:
How much force does the table exert on the ball to bring it to rest?
CHAPTER: MOTION
1. Differentiate between:
I. Distance and Displacement
II. Speed and Velocity
III. Uniform and non- uniform motion
IV. Scalar and vector quantity
CHAPTER: SOUND
1. Differentiate between:
I. Longitudinal wave and tranverse wave
II. Compressions and Rarefactions
III. Infrasound and ultrasound
IV. Frequency and Amplitude
2.The figure below shows a sound wave of frequency 100Hz. For this wave motion, find
3. Derive the relationship between velocity, frequency and wavelength of a sound wave.
4. Give reasons for:
I. The reverberation time of a hall used for speeches should be very short.
II. A vibrating body produces sound. However, no sound is heard when a simple
pendulum oscillates in air.
III. Sounds of same loudness and pitch but produced by different musical instruments like
a violin and flute are distinguishable.
IV. Sound boards and Ceilings are curved.
V. Sound produced by a thunderstorm is heard after the lightning is seen.
5. i) Calculate the minimum distance between the listener and the reflector to hear an echo of
sound propagating with a speed of 340 ms-1.
ii) An echo returned in 3 s. What is the distance of the reflecting surface from the source
given that the speed of sound is 342 ms-1?
6. A submarine emits a sonar pulse, which returns from an underwater cliff in 1.02 s. If the
speed of sound in salt water is 1531 m/s, how far away is the cliff?
