The Positive and Negative Aspects of Globalization

As we can see on the news, in our textbooks, and even in casual conversations,
globalization is everywhere these days. It's about the world becoming more connected,
with goods, services, and ideas flowing freely across borders. We can order clothes
online from all over the world, like shopee, shein, tiktok shop and etc. we can connect
with friends and family across continents through social media, like the most commonly
used app Facebook and can also experience different cultures through travel and
entertainment. It's a world of interconnectedness, where distance seems less of a
barrier and the possibilities feel endless. But as I think about it more, I realize that
globalization isn't always sunshine and rainbows. It has a darker side, too. It's not just
about cool new things and exciting experiences. It's also about the impact on people
and the environment.

To begin with, Globalization is like this big, swirling world where everyone is
connected. It's how I can talk to my friend who lives far away, how I can buy clothes
from a store in another country, and how I can watch movies from different places. The
world feels smaller, and there's so much to see and do. But sometimes, I think about the
things we don't see. It's like there's a hidden cost to all this connection. Think about
those clothes that we buy online. They're super cheap, but I wonder about the people
who made them. Do they get paid enough? Is their workplace safe? cause I once saw
a video about the brand "Shein" on tiktok where people were making clothes nonstop
due to the fact that this brand Shein is popular across the world because of its cheap
price and styles but the people making them seems forced and already tired, there's
also a part of the video where the workers put "help" sign on the tag of each clothes to
let the buyers call a help for them but I think the issue has already been resolved. I will
be really glad if it's already resolved because when i saw the video, I am really sad for
them so that's why i stopped buying from the shein brand and decided to support local
brands here in the Philippines. it's not just about the money, but also about the people
who make them. And it's not just about clothes. All the stuff we buy like phones,
computers, even the food we eat, it all comes from somewhere unless if you're a
vegetarian and you own a garden near your house. It's all part of this big, connected
world, and sometimes, it feels like the Earth is paying the price for all this stuff. I saw a
video about a rainforest that's being destroyed because people want to grow food for
everyone or likely want to build houses, apartments or other tall buildings for
businesses. It's crazy to think that what we do in one place can hurt things in another
place. It's like slowly killing wild animals for destroying their home and it's actually sad
thinking that other wild animals will find a new place for them to rest and survive

Moreover, Globalization is like a coin with two sides just like what's been said in the
video provided. It has a positve and negative sides. It's great that we can connect with
people and learn about different cultures, but it also has some bad things that come with
it. We need to think about the impact of our choices, and we need to support
companies that treat people and the Earth well. It's a lot to think about, but it's
important. We can't just ignore the problems caused by globalization. We need to be
part of the solution. We can do so much things, take our place as an example like we
people in our barangay being united for cleaning roads, rivers and as well as the coastal
areas, it's not much but it's the least that we can do to protect our Mother Earth and with
this actions the new generations will be likely to adapt what's been started by us and
they will make exactly as what we're doing because as what Dr. Jose Rizal said "Ang
mga bata ang pag-asa ng bayan" it's really the new generations who gives hope to us
because they can be the one who can break the history that is happening now in our
country the Philippines.

Additionally, what I've been thinking about a lot lately is the "race to the bottom"
mentality where companies are always looking for the cheapest way to make things,
and that often means moving production to countries with lower wages and fewer
regulations without thinking the workers safety, I'm not generalizing but it's one of the
issues that is happening now in our country. They does not care about things like fair
wages, safe working conditions, or environmental protection. They just want to make a
profit and that is reality. Mostly people who's rich ang successful will maintain being rich
by just sitting in their office doing the signing of documents and chilling while the poor
people who mostly do the hardwork will still be poor due to low salary. It's more likely an
unfair treatment to workers and that's why many filipino people takes risk on working
abroad to satisfy the needs of their family. It's hard to think about, but it's a reality. And
it's not just about workers. Globalization is also putting a strain on the environment. All
those goods being shipped around the world, all those airplanes and trucks burning fuel,
it's adding to climate change and polluting our planet which is not good. We could really
notice the changes in our planet like for example the hotness that we're experiencing
right now, it's the people, it's us who causes this changes in our own planet. It's like a
bounce back to us.

Another factor to consider is, Globalization has also had a profound impact on
culture. It's great that we can experience different cultures through travel, music, and
food. But sometimes, I worry that it's making everything too similar. I see the same
brands and the same fast food everywhere I go. Let's take the Country fried chicken
(CFC) and Krispy King as an example of that, It's like we're losing some of the unique
flavors of different cultures. Globalization is a complex thing. It has brought about many
positive changes, such as increased trade, economic growth, and cultural exchange.
But it has also come with a price. The exploitation of workers, the degradation of the
environment, and the homogenization of cultures are all serious concerns that we must
address. So what can we do about it? Well, as a student or a person who lives in this
world, we can make a difference. Of course we can. First thing to do is to support
ethical and sustainable businesses and choose products from companies that prioritize
fair labor practices and environmental responsibility. We can research companies and
their supply chains to ensure they are not exploiting workers or harming the
environment. Be more aware of the origins of our stuff we can research the origins of
the products we buy and consider the environmental and social costs involved. Think
about the journey your clothes, electronics, and food have taken to reach you embrace
cultural diversity, seek out and appreciate different cultures and support local
businesses. Advocate for change: Speak out against unfair trade practices,
environmental degradation, and cultural homogenization. Support organizations that
are working to promote social justice and environmental sustainability.

To sum up, Globalization is like a big, exciting adventure where we get to connect
with people and places all over the world. It's helped us learn about different cultures,
get cool stuff from faraway lands, and even share ideas and technology. But it's also
important to remember that this adventure has some downsides. For example, all that
travel and shipping can hurt our planet, and sometimes it can make things unfair for
people in different parts of the world. So, the key is to learn from our mistakes and
make sure we're being kind to the Earth and to each other as we explore this amazing
world together. The path ahead is not easy, but it is a path worth pursuing. We can
create a more equitable and sustainable world by making conscious choices, supporting
organizations working for change, and advocating for policies that promote social justice
and environmental responsibility. The future of globalization is in our hands.
