Introduction
Electrical power system is the largest man-made dynamic system. The programme has dealt with a systematic exposition of topics such as power system Operation and control, load flow, voltage control and stability, automatic load-frequency control, deregulation, optimal power flow, power system dynamics, Power system transients and protection, soft computing application to power system. Besides giving a detailed discussion on the basic principles and practices, the programme has provided both software and hardware-based examples to illustrate the topics discussed. The course contents have been taught by eminent experts in the field, having adequate teaching and research experience. This course will be beneficial to faculty from Electrical and Electronics engineering discipline as a potential analytical tool in their research activities. This course is aimed at newly recruited teachers (Less than five years Experience), designed from the basic concepts to application and reviews.
Objective of the Programme
This programme will provide a comprehensive and structured exposure to power system environment. Exposure to soft-computing applications in power systems Learn power system simulations using MATLAB. Practical training on TRNSMISSION LINE HARDWARE KIT as well as RELAYS.
Programme Schedule The programme is designed in such away that, the participant starts with concept of electrical power system and then advances in electrical power and control systems. The first week is devoted to Load flow studies and Load frequency control studies and Matlab Programming language. The second week is devoted to Optimal Control and Power system stability studies and simulations. The detailed Programme schedule is enclosed in Annexure-I.
Execution of the Programme With the above objective in mind, JITM had applied to All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under Staff Development Programme Scheme in January 2009. The Council has approved the Programme and sanctioned Rs. 3, 50,000/-(Rupees Three Lakhs and Fifty thousands only) in the month of March 2009. The Staff Development Programme Details in the form of
Brochure were sent in the first week of October 2009 to 411 Engineering Colleges throughout the country, out of which 30 applicants responded within the stipulated time (25-11-09). After thorough screening, intimations to the selected twenty (20) participants were sent by E-mail and Telephone. Details of Participants are enclosed in Annexure-II.
Resource Persons The resource persons with Electrical Power System specializations are mainly drawn from Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of JITM, Prof (Dr) P.S. Venkataramu, Professor, Dept. of EEE, and Principal,Gyan Ganga Institute of Technology and Management ( GGITM ) BHOPAL delivered the keynote address on Inaugural session. The details are presented in Annexure-III. Course Material Details The course material is prepared in two volumes. The first one POWER SYSTEM OPERATION AND CONTROL is exclusively prepared for familiarizing the participants in the Power system area and Matlab Tool box . It includes theory and step by step procedure in MATLAB software. It is published with color cover and back pages in spiral bound fashion.
The second one contains the lecture notes of the invited outstation resource persons and in-house resource persons. It is published in softbound fashion.
The above two books along with 100 page long note book with the entire programme schedule as back page were handed over in an executive bag to the participants in the inaugural session on 30-11-09. Inaugural Session The programme was inaugurated by Dr. P.S.VENKATARAMU, Professor , Dept. of EEE and Principal, Gyan Ganga Institute of Technology and Management, BHOPAL, on 30-11-09 at 9.00 AM in the JITM Seminar Hall in the CSREM Campus. Dr. K.Parvati, Principal, JITM, Dr. Ashok Mishra, Vice-Principal, JITM, and co-coordinator, Prof.Debasish Rath spoke on this occasion. Prof.Debasish Rath, Co-coordinator presented a report on the program. Keynote address on Introduction and overview of Electrical POWER SYSTEM presented by the Chief Guest Dr.P.S.VENKATARAMU. The program was attended by all the Participants, along with other Heads of the Departments and Professors. Some Important Photographs of inauguration and rest of the program are enclosed in Annexure-IV. Press clippings are enclosed in Annexure-V.
Boarding and Lodging Arrangements to Participants All the participants were accommodated in JITM College Hostels. Double rooms were provided for all participants. Lunch arranged for all resource persons, supporting staff along with participants in the Class Room Venue itself. Dinner arranged only for participants in the CSREM Staff Dining Hall. Valedictory Session Valedictory session was organized on the last day of the programme i.e. 12th Dec 2009 in the VLSI AND SIMULATION LABARATORY,EEE Department of JITM.. Dr.K.Parvati, Principal, JITM, presided the function. Prof.Debasish Rath Co-coordinator, spoke on this occasion. Some of the participants responded with their feedbacks highlighting the pros and cons of the programme. All feedbacks were found to be satisfactory. Certificates to the participants were distributed by Prof. (Dr) Debapriya Das, IIT-KHARAGPUR. Prof.Debasish Rath, Co-coordinator concluded the meeting with Vote of Thanks.
