Scanning Scanning is one of three components of information gathering. The Scanning is a procedure for identifying active hosts on a network, either for the purpose of attacking them or for network security assessment. Nslookup nslookup is a network administration tool for querying the Domain Name System (DNS) to obtain domain name or IP address mapping or any other specific DNS record. It is also used to troubleshoot DNS related problems. Whois WHOIS is a query/response protocol that is widely used for querying databases in order to determine the registrant or assignee of Internet resources, such as a domain name, an IP address block, administrative, technical, and billing contacts, which include employee names, email addresses, and phone & fax numbers, DNS servers etc.
