ABSTRACT

McDonald's, a global fast-food giant, has found success in the Philippines.

However, its current positioning strategy might be facing challenges. This abstract

explores the potential issues with McDonald's brand image in the Philippines. The

focus lies on how the company's current positioning might not resonate as

effectively with other giant companies in the market and how it could be hindering

future growth. The marketing framework outlined in this business plan aims to

maintain McDonald's Philippines' status as the nation's top fast-food brand. The

plan prioritizes four main objectives which are First, being the First Choice for

Filipino Families, this entails providing meals with a Filipino flair and

accommodating changing family needs. Second, Unmatched Efficiency and

Service. The plan outlines the operational steps to provide reliable, superior

service. Third, Sustainability and Social Responsibility. The document provides

strategies for being a pioneer in both corporate social responsibility and

sustainable practices. Last is the Employee Happiness and Innovation through

developing a culture that supports ongoing development and employee pleasure

is a key component of the approach.

1
INTRODUCTION

In a fast-paced and competitive market, achieving leadership in the fast-

food sector requires careful planning, sharp market analysis, and innovative

strategies. This introduction sets the scene for a thorough examination of

McDonald's Philippines' ambition to become a frontrunner in the industry. By

outlining the current market landscape, pinpointing main competitors, and

understanding consumer preferences and trends, this research aims to lay the

groundwork for strategic planning and implementation. With a clear goal of

becoming the top choice for Filipino consumers, McDonald's Philippines aims to

combine global strategies with localized tactics to ensure continuous growth and

dominance in the market.

Despite the rapidly evolving food market with shifting consumer demands

and a growing digital landscape, McDonald's maintains its position as a global

leader. This success hinges on their unwavering commitment to operational

excellence. McDonald's consistently delivers high-quality food and a familiar

experience across diverse socioeconomic demographics worldwide. Notably,

they've continuously refined their operations to minimize waste, which is a

significant challenge in the food industry (Ghazi, n.d.). This operational paper will

analyze McDonald's operational management strategies and its impact on the

business. The researchers will delve into their operating system, exploring how it

can be utilized to develop an operational plan that drives significant improvements

across their vast network.

2
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

McDonald's, a global fast-food giant, faces unique challenges in the

competitive Philippine market. While it holds a strong international presence, its

dominance is contested by the local favorite, Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC).

This study investigates the factors affecting McDonald's competitive positioning in

the Philippines. The primary focus is on JFC's success in catering to local taste

preferences. JFC's menu items, like sweet spaghetti and "crispylicious" chicken

with rice, resonate more with Filipino consumers compared to McDonald's

standardized offerings. This cultural disconnect, coupled with JFC's vast branch

network (over three times that of McDonald's), has resulted in JFC surpassing

McDonald's in both sales and market share.

Furthermore, the study explores internal challenges faced by McDonald's.

Issues concerning employee retention and labor practices are examined. Incidents

of employee protests regarding low wages and unfair practices highlight potential

shortcomings. Unhappy employees can directly impact customer satisfaction,

jeopardizing McDonald's long-term success. Finally, the study considers the

evolving consumer landscape. The growing demand for healthier food options

poses a challenge for McDonald's menu, traditionally known for its indulgent

meals. Adapting to this shift in consumer preference is crucial for McDonald's to

remain competitive.

3
In addition to these key factors, the study will also investigate

inconsistencies in service, servings, and facilities across McDonald's franchises in

the Taguig area. Maintaining a consistent brand experience is vital for customer

satisfaction and brand loyalty. By analyzing these challenges, the study aims to

provide valuable insights for McDonald's to strengthen its position in the dynamic

Philippine fast-food market.
