a) What does the scatter diagram above indicate about the relationship between Quarterly Sales and the
Student Population?
[3]
b) Develop the estimated regression equation by computing the values of β0 and β1
[10]
c) Copy the scatter diagram to your answer book and try to approximate the relationship between
"Student Population" and "Quarterly Sales" by drawing a straight line through the data.
[3]
d) Use the estimated regression equation to predict the value of Quarterly Sales when Student
Population=4.

QUESTION 4 [15 Marks]

At an overpriced department store there are 112 customers. 43 have purchased Shirts, 57 have purchased
Pants, and 38 have purchased Neither.
a) Copy the Venn diagram below to your answer book and represent the above information in the Venn
diagram
n(S) =

Pants Shirt

[8]
b) How many customers have purchased Pants only?
[2]
c) Calculate P (Shirt|Pants)

QUESTION 5 [20 Marks]

A pack of playing cards contains 52 cards, 13 belonging to each of the four suites “Spades”, “Hearts”,
“Diamonds” and “Clubs”. Within each suite the 13 cards are labelled: Ace, 2, . . ., 10, Jack, Queen, King.
Let D be the event that a randomly selected card is a diamond, and K be the event that the card is a king,
and B be the event that the card has one of the numbers from 2 to 10.
a) Find P (D); P (K) and P (B)
[2 + 2 + 2 = 6]
b) Find P (D ∩ K); P (B ∪ D) and P (B ∩ K)
[3+ 3 + 3 = 9]
c) Find P (D ∪ K ∪ B)
[2]
d) Suppose a King card was selected at random, What is the probability that the selected card is a
Diamond.

QUESTION 6 [6 Marks]
Let [Amale , Af emale ] be two students (male and female) from school A and [Bmale , Bf emale ] be two students
(male and female) from school B who are attending regional mathematics competition in Windhoek.
a) In how many ways can these students be seated in a row of 4 seats if there are no restrictions as to
where each student can sit?
[2]
b) In how many ways can these students attending a mathematics competition be seated in a row of 4
seats if students from the same school are to be seated together?
[2]
c) In how many ways can these students attending a mathematics competition be seated in a row of 4
seats if members of the same sex are all seated next to each other in the 4 row seats?

QUESTION 7 [13 Marks]

Suppose in a certain primary school, the weight of boys are normally distributed with mean 28kg and standard
deviation 2.25kg. A boy is picked out at random and his weight is measured.
Calculate the following probabilities and show the area representing the probability on the distribution curve
a) Probability that the weight lies between 25kg and 30kg.
[4]
b) Probability that the weight is lessthan 25kg.
[2]
b) Probability that the weight is lessthan 32kg.
[3]
b) Probability that the weight lies between 24kg and 27kg.
[4]
For all thse questions, draw a standard normal distribution curve and shade the area under the curve
to represent these probabilities.
NB: Strictly only use the standard normal distribution table on “Appendix”.

Question 8 [7 Marks]
A retail shop has two drivers that transport goods between the shop and a warehouse 15 km away. They
argue continuosly about the choice of route between the shop and warehouse, each claiming that his route
is the quicker. To settle the argument, you wish to decide (5% significant level) which driver’s route is the
quicker. Over a period of months you time two drivers, and the data collected are summarized below.
Driver 1 Driver 2
Number of observations n1 =38 n2 =43
Average time (minutes) X̄1 =20.3 X̄2 = 22.5
Standard deviation σ1 =3.7 σ2 =4.1
Conduct a hypothesis test, to verify if there is a difference between the two drivers route?
