METHOD STATEMENT FOR


Masonry works.
1- Purpose:

To ensure that all block works activities are executed safely and in accordance with the contract
requirements and that all quality assurance / control activities are conducted in a systematic
manner, works are inspected and conformance is verified and documented.

2- Scope of Worhs:

The scope of works covered by this Method Statement is supply and laying of clay and concrete
block and brick work, (ENTRADA PROJECT PROJECT TYPE A. A1.A2 AND C.C1) where
required, in as following:

1- Solid Concrete Block (100 mm/120m.m/200m.m/250m.m) Cm for :( underground walls above


ground beams with thick. 25 cm — Internal/External Walls with thick(100
m.m/120m.m/200m.m/250m.m — wet area up to height 1.20 m and around openings (Doors —
Windows-Electrical cabins) as per approved shop drawings, time schedule, Technical
Specifications and Standards) in buildings.

Commencement of work for this item shall take place as needed during progress of work on site
and as per last version of approved time schedule.

3- References, Standards:

The following references and Standards shall be applicable for the work items in this Method
Statement either totally or partially:
- Project Specifications.
- BOQ Items.
- Approved shop drawings.

4- Subconti actor: -

4 1 Supplying Material
• 4.1.1 Concrete Solid Block (100 m.m/120m.m/200m.m/250m.m) samples will submit for
approval.

• 4.1. 2 hollow cement block (100 m.m/l20m.m/200m.m/250m.m) samples will submit for
approval.

• 4.1.3 Masonry Accessories: Samples will submit for approval.

5- Materials:

5-1 Blochs:

5.1.1 Concrete 'block and bricks work shall conform to requirements of ESC. Crushing strength
and absorption test. Test report shall be submitted to Consultant for approval when the
block is delivered to site or as per consultant requirements.

5.1.2 All masonry units will be delivered to site in pallets which will be stored in elevated
platform in dry location following the approved logistic plan. If stored in open place,
top and sides of stacks will be covered with waterproof sheeting securely tied.

5.1.3 Block shall be Solid concrete blocks or clay bricks as per approved shop drawings.

5.1.4 . Manufactured to dimensions 3mm less than nominal dimensions.

5.1.5 All surfaces shall be flat and rectangular and adjacent surfaces shall be at right angles
to one another.

5.1.6 Unless otherwise specified all block faces shall provide a satisfactory bond for motor,
plastering or rendering.

5-2 Masonry Accessories:

5.2.1 Corrugated Metal Ties.

5.2.2 Wire Mesh Joint Reinforcement.

5.3 AGGREGATE:

5.3.1 Fine and coarse natural aggregates shall comply generally with ESC.

5.3.2 The chloride content of the fine and coarse aggregates, tested in aooordanoe with ESC,
shall not exceed 1.0% of the weight of cement used in manufacturer of the block.

5.3.3 Sand for motor shall be selected beach or dune sand, washed clean and free from clay,
chalk, shells, organic materials and other impurities. The sand shall comply in all respects
with ESC.

5-4 Black Cement:

Cement shall be Portland cement shall comply with ESC.

5-5 Water:

It shall be Portable

5-6 Mortar Mixes:

5.6.1 Mortar mixes shall be mechanical in site or accurately gauged by volume using
approved gauge boxes.

5.6.2 The ingredients shall first be mixed dry until thoroughly mixed to a uniform colour
before water is added to the mix.

5.6.3 All mortar shall be used within 10 minutes of mixing. No mortar, which has achieved its
initial set, shall be used in the work, and no water is to be added to the mortar, after
the initial mix.

5.6.4 Mortar samples shall be prepared and tested in accordance with ESC and as instructed
by the Consultant engineer.

5.6.5 Minimum cement content shall be 350 kg/m3 for wall l20mm thick &300 kg/m3 for wall
250mm thick or more

7 - Safety:

7.1 HSE Instructions stated in Item 15 shall be followed.

8- Procedure Execution and Inspections:

8.1 Preparation

8.1.1 A survey and inspection on completion of structural work for structural element
recording deviations and deficiencies, if any a complete report of each
building shall be submitted to the Consultant prior to commencing building
masonry assemblies on Foundation.

8.1.2 Clean the floor, under wall course of dirt using brush. Remove any slurry, laitance,
leaving a sound concrete.

8.1.3 Setting out for unit masonry work for each hiiilrJin in re er oordinates from
approved shop drawing.

8.1.4. Install the Corrugated metal tied for interior and exterior walls where masonry abuts
or face RC columns or walls every b0ClTl unless otherwise indicated.

8.2 Installation

8.2.1 Lay out walls for accurate spacing of surface bond patterns and for accurate
location of openings movement type joints, returns and offset.

8.2.2 Wet bricks before laying, allow units to absorb water so they are dump but not wet
at the time of laying the course.

8.2.3 Wet the floor under walls

8.2.4 For starting the 1st course will be inspected and then inspect full hieght

8.2.5 Masonry unit will be laid with full coverage mortar on horizontal and vertical
shells and will maintain a joint thickness of 10mm minimum and 12mm maximum
for joints.

8.2.6 Connection between walls and partition should be bonded, tied by using wall angle
to be nailed in the column before the succeeding layer is laid. For a partition to be
connected to an adjacent wall, this will be done by toothing.

8.2.7 Submitting “Work Inspection Request” to the consultant to get approval on the
first course. It should be signed by all concerned related discipline for coordination
purposes.

8.2.8 After layout approval, courses shall be laid to comply with specified construction
tolerances, with courses accurately spaced and coordinated with other
construction.

8.2.9 Install wire mesh in mortar joints at 800mm maximum vertical intervals

8.2.10 At stopping and resuming work in each course, rack back one-half running bond or
one-third unit length for one third running bond, clean exposed surfaces of set
masonry and remove loose masonry units and mortar before laying fresh masonry.

8.2.12 Leave opening for E/M embedrñent or equipment and fixture after approved
successful installation, complete the masonry to match the adjacent wall. Opening
for E/M embedment routing, grinder and chisel will be used

8.2.13 Lintel beams will be casted-in-situ. Use concrete lintels minimum depth l 50mm
for all openings in masonry assemblies with 200mm minimum bearing at each
jamb as per below.

8.2.14 after 1 m height of block clay work we will use row of cement block and around all window opining

8.2.15 Install mortar in joint between top of partition and the soffit after filling gap with
solid piece blocks or wooden.

8.2.16 Clean unit masonry as work progresses by dry brushing to remove mortar fins and
smears before tooling joints.

8.2.17 Remove and replace masonry units that are loose, chipped and broken. Install new
units to match adjoining units with fresh mortar.

8.2.18 Curing of masonry will be for 3 days by sprinkling of water twice a day.

9- Inspection and tests: -


Inspection and approval process shall be performed after completing activities otherwise
indicated by consultant

10- Responsibilities:

10.1 The responsibilities of execution of masonry work shall be carried out by the
Construction Managers and relevant Site Engineer.

10.2 Inspection and test Procedures shall be carried out by the Quality Control Engineers.
