Quick Reference Guide / BC216 1

Quick Reference Guide for the Fire Detection Control Panel Series
BC216
valid for BC216-1S, BC216-1, BC216-2, BC216-1CE as well as BC216-2EPS

When the fire detection control panel is in normal condition (no alarms, no messages, no faults),
the display shows only the date and time; the green light-emitting diode 'POWER' is illuminated.
During the state of fire alarm, the red indicator 'ALARM' is illuminated on the fire detection con-
trol panel and its internal buzzer is activated (intermittent tone). The first alarm is shown on the
LC-display's first line and the fourth line shows the last alarm which has arrived. In the second and
third lines, the zone- and/or element-specific texts are printed for the alarm shown in the first line.
The activation of a transmitting device, connected to a designated alarm respondent (such as the
fire brigade), and the acoustic or optic alarm with the aid of an alarming device are also displayed
on the fire detection control panel. In addition to an alarm, the control panel can also activate actua-
tions (e.g. close fire doors, open smoke escape lids, activate extinguishing systems). The state of
fire alarm can be reset by disabling the activated detector zone(s) and then enabling again, though
the reason for the alarm being activated must first be removed (fire extinguished, room ventilated).
Technical messages are displayed by the indicator 'Technical message' and detailed information
(similar to the alarm) is shown on the LC-display. At the same time an acoustic signal (continuous
tone) is emitted from the control panel's internal buzzer. Resetting a technical message is carried
out in the same way as an alarm, by disabling and then enabling the activated detector zone. Tech-
nical messages can also be parameterised to be self-resetting. In this case the reset is automatically
executed when the message cause is removed.
In the state of fault, the fire detection control panel's yellow indicator 'FAULT' flashes and the con-
trol panel's internal buzzer is activated (continuous tone). The cause for the state of fault can be
both the activation of a fault detector zone or a function failure of the fire alarm system itself. The
reason for the fault is shown on the LC-display and is additionally indicated by a light-emitting
diode indicator. Depending on the parameter setup done by the installer, fault messages transmitted
to the control panel by fault detectors are either saved until the faults have been reset (e.g., by
disabling the fault detector zone), or they are reset when the cause of the fault is eliminated. Fault
messages which are determined by the control panel itself (e.g. power failure) are not kept saved.
The fault indication disappears along with the removal of the fault cause.

Measures in case of a fire alarm

 Silence the internal buzzer (press the button 'Silence buzzer').
 Determine where the first fire alarm has occurred (information on the LC-display).
 Check whether the fire brigade has been informed (red light-emitting diode 'Activated' is illumi-
nated in the field 'TRANSM. DEVICE'). If one of the light-emitting diodes 'Fault / Disabled' or
© by Labor Strauss Sicherungsanlagenbau Ges.m.b.H. Wien

'Call fire brigade' is illuminated, it is not sure whether the fire brigade has automatically been
informed.
 Carry out the measures described in the alarm organization.

Measures in case of a fault

 Silence the internal buzzer (press the button 'Silence buzzer').
 Determine which fault has occurred (indicated by yellow light-emitting diodes and on the LC-
display).
 Call the appropriate reconditioning service.
 By the aid of the User Manual, check for possible functional interference in the fire alarm sys-
tem that may be caused by the displayed fault. Direct any organizational measures that may be
required until the fault is cleared.

2 Operation Manual In Short Form / BC216

General operation
 Enter your 4-digit user code and confirm it by pressing the '↵'-button.
 If the entered code is valid, the green light-emitting diode 'Authorization' illuminates and [User
level] is shown on the LC-display.
 In the main menu you can scroll by using the '← →'-buttons, and by using the '↑↓'-buttons in
the corresponding sub-menu or in the list of the information to be displayed. Use the '↵'-button
to select the sub-menu, note the special function of this key in some menu items. You return to
the next higher menu item by using the button 'esc'.
 The 'Info'-button delivers additional information on the displayed event and on the possible ope-
ration.
 Authorization is quit by selecting the menu item [Exit authorization?], which you confirm by
using the '↵'-button.
If you have forgotten your user code, only the installation company of your fire alarm system can
give you a new code!
