1.IBM was founded in 1888 as Herman Hollerith and the Tabulating Machine company. It was incorporated in 1911 as competing Tabulating Recording Company. The company later changed its name to IBM corporation in 1924 after becoming a fortune 500 company. 2.IBM is well known for its sales centered business culture as it continuous to hire its executive and managers from its sales force . Its current CEO/ President, Samuel Palmisano, Stated his career as a sales man with the company . The companys traditional culture of wearing a dark suit ,white shirt, and tie changed in the 1990s under the leadership of then CEO Lou Gerstneer. 3.IBM operate in 170 countries. IBMs R and D system employs over 20000software developers in 61 labs located work at its research centers operating in china, India, Isreal ,Japan, Switzerland and the Chited States. IBM provides results as its operations in four geographies segments . Americans Europe/Middle East/Africa Asia Pacific and OEM
4.IBM signed an $84.4 Million deal with Spanish Utility Iberdrola , one of the worlds largest Producers of renewable energy , to open an Innovation Center at Iberdro in Salamanea, Spain to develop new information technologies and provide services for the Utility .IBM announced that it is creating a Global Center of softare and consulting services for the design ,construction and operation as nuclear power plants .IBM is capitalizing on the global warming triggered revival of interest in nuclear power as an alternative to coal fired plants.

Able to expand its portfolio of management application through acquisition , and is in a unique position to complement other IBM software in a portfolio that covers the complete. It lifecycle and all it activities.
Threats
While IBM has no problem with being part of a vary large corporation still in the time it takes to bring innovation to market.
Weaknesses
IBM has shown a significant weakness in the service desk area : The importance of the service desk as a communication platform for processes is more and more obvious and IBM does not have a good solution . The challenge will be to accommodate what client have bought and to coexist with technologies from IBMs competitors.
