per day that visited it during the first week of the December holiday.

QUESTION 4
4.1 Fredrick would like to buy a new Acer computer at Compluto. Compluto offers an Acer
computer for 15 999,99 cash or a monthly payment of R535 over a period of
36 months. Due to his financial situation, Fredrick decides that he would prefer to
make use of the monthly offer.
4.1.1 Calculate the amount that Fredrick will pay for the Acer computer. (1)
4.1.2 Determine the interest rate that Fredrick will be paying. (5)
4.2 Sam is planning a holiday trip to Disney World in Paris. He decided to invest his
savings of R55 000 at a 5,6% compound interest per annum. After a year he invests
another R30 000 at the same interest rate. By the end of the second year, he
withdraws R29 500, to pay for his holiday package.
4.2.1 By making use of a time line, calculate how much will Sam receive at the end of
the third year. (6)
4.2.2 If on the day of departure, the exchange rate is predicted to be £ 1 R22,78,
determine (in £) how much spending money will Sam have on that day. (2)
