Problem
1. Assume the that the voltage drop across the diode is 0.7 V. Plot the
output waveform considering the voltage drop across the R1 and RL.

During positive half-cycle Vi – V0 = 0 or Vi = V0

-Vi + V0 = 0 or Vi = V0

During negative half-cycle

Diode Circuits: Clampers
• A clamper is a network constructed of a diode, a resistor, and a
capacitor that shifts a waveform to a different dc level without
changing the appearance of the applied signal.

• Always start the analysis with the cycle which forward bias the
diode
1. Obtain the vo, assuming that the diode is ideal

Diode Circuits: Clampers
1. Obtain the vo, assuming that the diode is ideal

• During positive half-cycle, diode is forward

biased
• vo = 0 V and capacitor will charge to V

Diode Circuits: Clampers

• During negative half-cycle, diode is reverse

biased

• Polarity on the capacitor will not change

instantaneously during negative half cycle.

• Capacitor will behaves as a battery of potential
