The line graph illustrates the information about the number of new shops that
started their operation along with ones that went out of business in a country during
a period from 2011 to 2018. Overall, the number of both open shops and closed ones
had decreased in this period despite experiencing a varying level of fluctuations
during this period.
In 2011 and 2012, the number of closed shops fluctuated around the mark of
just over 6,000. Nevertheless, it raised significantly afterwards following a
completely different pattern to the figure for new ones and eventually peaking at
7,000 in 2013. The figure for stores closures then plummeted considerably as only
around 500 faced closures in 2015. It then surged again to more than 5,000 before
stabilizing at this level until 2018.
Overall, there was a notable increase in car ownership across all categories over the 30-year
period. The proportion of people owning two or three cars rose significantly, while the
percentage of those possessing one car remained relatively stable instead of fluctuating in
1985. Conversely, the number of individuals without a car steadily declined throughout this
examined period.
In 1975, approximately 45% of people owned one car, while 43% had no car. Over the
following decade, the proportion of one-car owners remained relatively consistent, reaching
45% again by 2005, despite some fluctuations. Meanwhile, the percentage of those without a
car decreased steadily, dropping to around 25% in 1985 and further to 22% in 2005.
Regarding those owning multiple cars, there was a clear upward trend. In 1975, only 8% and
4% of UK inhabitants owned 2 cars and 3 cars respectively. From 1985 onwards, these rates
experienced a similar growth of nearly 4%, with a particular increase from roughly 15% to
19% in the percentage of two-car ownership. Similarly, the proportion of individuals with
three cars rose from around 5% in 1985 to 9% in 2005. This growth indicates a shift towards
more car ownership among British people over the observed period.
