ERUSU AKOKO FESTIVE CULTURE


 Oyere Festival is a celebration that comes up every 9 years,the festival aim is
to bring loved one together, during the festival every male will go to the sacred
mountain to pray putting on white cloth.women are not allowed to go to the
mountains that very day but after the festival they are free. The cultural way of
dressing for the festival is by poring paint,ink or any colour stuff on each other
and dressing in an insane way,which they go about dancing and jubilating.

 Imoto Festival is a celebration that comes up every 3 years,it is a festival that


only women are to contribute to buy a white cow. On the Imoto day,the cow
will be released and the cow by itself will go to the place of slaughter,where
the men gather there to kill it and pray and ask for their heart desires,the
women are forbidden to come to the slaughter place.after the prayer when the
men are returning the women can meet them with singing and dancing.At the
slaughter place only dialect is allowed.

 Odun Imole is a yearly celebration that comes up after Egun celebration,this


is a celebration where only women are allowed to put on imole masquerade on
their head without touching it and they with dance but it won't fall. Early in the
morning,they would go to the shrine and put the masquerade on their head
without their hand touching it and go round the village dancing.it must be
perform every 7 day fir 3 times.

 Egun (masquerade)festival is a yearly celebration that comes up around


December period.they are different types of Egun e.g Obuko,Aluko,Ale,Ede.
This masquerades are used for fun, EDE is a masquerade that out every night
and whenever it out pig are killed as sacrifice.feather and horn are used in
decorating the masquerade.

 Odun Mundia (Teenager festival)is a festival that is comes out every 3 years,it
is a teenager festival which they are too be naked and put in waist beads .they
will all go to the market and rub some substance on their body while dancing
round the market.

Artifact of Erusu Akoko

Erusu and,a town in Ondo state, Nigeria is renowned for it's traditional
pottery ,which is a significant cultural practices and a key element of it's
festival.This pottery tradition is primarily carried out by women's, utilizing
technique such as molding, coiling and pinching to produce various ceramic form.

The pottery is deeply embedded in the community culture,reflecting it history


and artistic heritage.One of the most cherish artifact is the large fermentation
pot,known as "ISA".these pots are used to ferment farm produce such as
cassava,fir making fufu and lafun, corn for making local wine.

Every year during local festival,these pottery item are prominently display
and used . During the festival,the pots and other clay artifact are used in various
ceremonies including the preparation and serving of traditional food.

The artifact are not just utilitarian object;they are symbol of the community
resilience, creativity and connection to their ancestor.
