Figures at the right hand margin indicate marks.

All parts of a question should be answered at one place.

Q.No. ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS ( 3 × 10) Marks

1.a Discuss on the following: (i) Streetcar, (ii) Regional Rail. 2×2

1.b Temporal position of a train is given by the equation: d2x/dt2 = 7.t2 + 5.t + 8. 6
Calculate the distance moved by the train from its initial position at the time when it
moves at the highest speed.

2.a Make a comparative study between Bus Rapid Transit and Rail Rapid Transit. 4

2.b The following minute flow rates were observed for the peak hour on an expressway 6
section. Determine the 30 minute PHF.

Two roads AB and CD intersect at O. The width of each approach lane is given as 3
3 m. The volume on each of the legs is as follows: right-turn volume on the leg AO is 10
400 pcu/hr, through and left-turn volume on the leg AO is 850 pcu/hr; right-turn
volume on the leg BO is 325 pcu/hr, through and left-turn volume on the leg BO is
900 pcu/hr; total volume on the leg CO is 540 pcu/hr; total volume on the leg DO is
400 pcu/hr; volumes of right-turning vehicles on legs CO and DO are 25% of the
total volumes of the respective lanes. Both the roads are 17 m wide. Assume, design
vehicle length = 5 m, design speed = 45 kmph, perception-reaction time for
responding to green to amber change in signal indication = 1 s, comfortable
deceleration = 4 m/s2, start-up lost time = 2 s, movement lost time = half of amber
time, and there is no all-red time. For the above intersection, determine all aspects of
signal timing.
