Fabio Luise, PhD electrical engineer PERSONAL INFORMATION Place and date of birth Venezia, March 1, 1971 (Citizenship: Italian) Address via Turcinella n°5, 30174, VE, Italy Telephone #39 347 8520696 (39 216171252 work umber 24/2) Private e-mail [email protected] ‘CURRENT POSITION Application Engineering Manager, Nidec ASI SpA, Monfalcone BU SKILLS With a technical background and a team leading experience, | think to have some intuition in the fields of electromagnetics and thermofluidies, while relying on expert colleagues for the mechanical competences. In rotating machines sector, achievements often come through contributions of several specialists working a a team: the best results arrive when, exploiting some instinct, discussion allows ideas to evolve and become physical and industrial reality (On the other hand, in the dally workflow context, itis important to coordinate different functions and have them to positively exchange information. Colleagues define me as workaholic; | generally adapt to and go along well with a wide spectrum of people, In particular with whom I share tech challenges thrill, and a positive use of creativity. EXPERIENCE 2004 - 2007 2008 - 2012 Employed as an electromagnetic designer in Nidec ASI Electric Motors and Generators BU in Monfalcone (Gorizia, IT). The production plant manufactures engineering to order medium voltage rotating machines up to 60MW, for industry, Oil & Gas and Energy applications {about 130 white collars and 250 blue collars) ‘Main task is the electromagnetic design of permanent magnet (PM) machines in a R&D team of 3, under a senior manager, with close interaction with manufacturing technology, project management, purchasing, and production. Responsibility of the Innovative Projects office, that focuses on PM technology: in a couple of years, the team has been composed of 8 specialized engineers, each one selected for competence, enthusiasm and team working attitude. Competences cover electromagnetics, thermo-fluid dynamics, rotordynamics and structural design. Each ‘member has programming skills: main working tools are based on finite element method. The office is also supported by a dielectric laboratory with a dedicated operator. In such context, novel and special product configurations are developed to best fit the customer needs (few images in attachment). The main interaction is with customers, key suppliers and consultants, Universities, and with colleagues from all the functions (also power electronics). This small, positive group directly supports manufacture and prototypes test-room activities, Projects span from flux-weakened vehicle traction, marine propulsion, hydraulic generation, very high and very low speed power generation systems, direct-driven gas turbines to wind and tidal energy. Configurations are radial SPM / IPM, and axial flux, inner / outer rotor topologies. A 1.4ME financed research project focusing on high efficiency solutions is submitted and successfully developed, including, active magnetic bearings (AMBs) solutions. EXPERIENCE 2013 2014 2015 2016 2018 Responsibility of the R&D office, further enlargement of previous Innovative Projects, now with different directives; other specialized engineers join the team reaching 16 members in 2017. Main goal is to use advanced approaches for renewal of the standard product, exploiting modem design tools, and introducing stronger modularization and co-engineering with specialized suppliers, and to support complex RCAS. Leaving behind the financed research, the focus shifts towards standard production induction machines: notwithstanding ETO approach, Nidec machines are often still based on “design heritag Release of an hybrid FE-analytical tool to predict induction motor performances: it takes into account slip- related saturation and non-uniform current density distribution phenomena, overcoming traditional calculation tools limits. itis applied to a IC 411 series industrialization with a patent on the cooling concept. and improving 1, coso, dBA, vibration (API and Shell std.) and adding IIB and IIC explosion proof features. Study and development of a challenging 10MW, 10000rpm motor for methane integrated compressor for a Chinese group (motor and magnetic bearings are flooded by 80bar CH, process gas). Design completed with two patents. This job implied several business trips to China, Europe and UK Manager position. Another redesign work focuses on the IC511 flameproof series (\IB certification): product availability to Sales in middle 2018, first production lots shipped in 2019. A huge 3-year Russian job ends, and a BU contraction phase follows. Responsibility of the whole Operation Engineering (45 technicians at that time). Each order duration spans from 7 to 14 months. The office suffers the retirement of senior designers and a deep restructuring starts. EXPERIENCE 2018 -today The product lines are four (Induction, Synchronous, Flameproof and DC}, each coordinated by a trusted mechanical engineer, controling a team of designers. The management of standard orders already fills the whole day for standard designs, but often the customer demands special solutions, while the market always requests cheaper and more performing products. In this context a new Porous Insulating System implementation has been a remarkable activity for my last two years: after system commissioning and certification, Direction and Application Engineering plant vacuum tank, ovens and treatment systems are now Working closely together with dielectric experts, Manufacturing Engineering and all the operative teams, we are redesigning and implementing on new orders - wherever feasible- the new materials and related processes. To mitigate the risks of such a critical operation, the implementation has been split into three main phases, and although highs and lows we are successfully managing this very important industrial evolution, achieving lower production costs with better machines characteristics. ‘The new Insulation System also allows implementing an original, long fed idea relating to heat exchange and performance impravement in 2 and 4 pole machines. After positive testing now more designs implement such solution (that is. intrinsically very difficult to patent). CALCULATION TECHNIQUES To face the challenges posed by the market, the colleagues with specialist knowledge must be coordinated for real teamwork = 7 deccicensvene, SE 7 certfation and new Vet : process rk management VERY SPECIAL DESIGN EXAMPLE Taylor fit induction motor with solid rotor for direct integration in gas compression system: 10MW, 10000rpm, 7.2kV, 167H2, levitates on active magnetic bearings, and itis completely filed by CH, @ 80bar ® PERSONAL INTERESTS.
