5. GENERAL ELECTRICAL HEAT TRACING INSTALLATION WORKS

5.1. General

5.1.1. All heat tracing cables shall be pulled and terminated as shown on vendor
instruction and approved drawings.

5.1.2. All type, color, voltage rating, length, etc for heat tracing cables shall be in
accordance with the construction specification and approved drawing, and
located to avoid interference with other facilities.

5.1.3. Any deviation from criteria indicated in specification, shall be submitted to

client for review and approval prior to installation.

5.2. Preparation

5.2.1. Care shall be taken to prevent the heat tracing kits and accessories from
contamination and damage in all phase of handling.

5.2.2. Approved construction drawings shall be prepared and reviewed.

5.2.3. Check completion of piping hydro test and final inspection for applicable pipe
line.

5.2.4. Check completion of required painting work and inspection for applicable pipe
line.

5.2.5. Check completion of power cable way installation and inspection.

5.2.6. Ensure that the pipe surface is clean with no loose scale or wet paint in contact
with the heating or sensing elements.

5.2.7. Correct type and enough length of heat tracing cable drum, heat tracing kits,
glass tape and other accessories shall be provided as per approved construction
drawings.

5.3. Installation and test

5.3.1. Avoid kinking or bending heat trace material

5.3.2. Refer to the heat tracing Isometric drawings and the Electrical drawings for plan
and sections of the area containing pipes and equipment to be electrically heated
and for the locations of terminal J/B, strip heater enclosures, thermocouple
sensor, and the heat tracing control panel prior to commencement of field work.

5.3.3. Heat tracing cable shall be installed in accordance with the approved drawings
and manufacturer's instructions.

5.3.4. Actual pipe lengths may be different from those indicated on the drawing.
Electrical supervisor shall verify the installed pipe lengths with the figures shown
in the heat tracing isomatric drawings

5.3.5. At points where valve stems, hangers, etc, extend through the pipe insulation,
additional heat shall be provided by applying coils around the valve. The coils are
formed from slack in the cable. Cable shall be in a serpentine fashion so that
valves can be removed without disrupting the circuitry

5.3.6. Where straight running of the heat tracing cables running way, avoid from the top
side of pipe as recommended by vendor.

5.3.7. Glass tape wraps or plastic cable tie applied around the circumference of the
pipe shall be used to hold the heat trace cable in place.

5.3.8. All thermostat bulbs, thermocouples and RTD's shall be located on the bare pipe
being heat traced, as shown on the approved drawings. The thermostats shall be
mounted in or on the J/B at the appropriate heat tracing cable termination, unless
otherwise noted on the heat tracing Isometric.

5.3.9. If splice is required, it shall be permitted from client representative.

5.3.10. Heat trace cables shall be cut to the lengths specified on the design drawings. If
not specified on project specification or drawings, the end is to have an end seal
installed, leaving about one foot of extra cable. If it is a power connection, leave
about 2∼4 feet of extra cable.

5.3.11. Termination and connection work in J/B and termination box shall be performed
in accordance with the manufacture's instruction and 'Cable Pulling and
Termination Procedure'.

5.3.12. Heat tracing cables and power cables shall be megger & continuity tested in
accordance with 'Cable test procedure' prior to jacket insulation work. If the
megger test value is out of tolerance, it shall be repaired before jacket insulation
work.

5.3.13. Megger and continuity test shall be performed again after jacket insulation has
been installed. If the megger test results fail, the test shall be repeated as above
para 5.2.12.

5.3.14. If required, identification mark such as 'Electrical heat traced', 'End kit', 'Tee kit',
etc shall be attached on the insulated jacket as per construction specification
