Sanchit, after completing his entrepreneurship course from Sweden returned to India and started 1
a coffee shop ‘Aroma Coffee Can’ in a famous mall in Delhi. The specialty of the coffee shop was
the special aroma of coffee and a wide variety of flavors to choose from. Somehow, the business
was neither profitable nor popular. Sanchit was keen to find out the reason. He appointed
Sandhya, an MBA from a reputed college, as a Manager to find out the causes for the same.
Sandhya took feedback from the clients and found out that though they loved the special unique
aroma of coffee but were not happy with the long waiting time taken to process the order. She
analyzed and found out that there were many unnecessary obstructions in between which could be
eliminated. She fixed a standard time for processing the order. She also realized that there were
some flavors whose demand was not enough. So, she also decided to stop the sale of such flavors.
As a result within a short period Sandhya was able to attract customers. Sandhya employed two
techniques of scientific management to address the issues faced by 'Aroma Coffee Can': Time and
Motion Study: Sandhya likely utilized time and motion studies to identify and eliminate
unnecessary obstructions in the order processing system. By observing and timing each step of the
coffee-making process, she could pinpoint where time was being wasted and which steps were
causing delays. This allowed her to streamline the process by removing non-essential tasks or
reorganizing the workflow to optimize efficiency. Establishing a standard time for processing
orders further ensures consistency and helps in meeting customer expectations. Simplification and
Standardization: Sandhya's decision to discontinue the sale of flavors with low demand
demonstrates the application of simplification and standardization principles. By reducing the
variety of flavors offered, she simplified the menu, making it easier for customers to make choices
and for staff to manage inventory. Standardizing the menu also allows for better control over
ingredient supply and production processes, leading to smoother operations and reduced waiting
times. This simplification and standardization not only improve operational efficiency but also
contribute to a better customer experience by focusing on the most popular and profitable
offerings. By employing these scientific management techniques, Sandhya was able to identify and
address the root causes of the coffee shop's problems, ultimately leading to increased customer
satisfaction and improved business performance.

specified limit without seeking prior approval of the higher level. Communication system was also improved
to facilitate free flow of upward and downward communication. Mr. Krishnan also adopted several measures

Assignment: 2

Instructions:

 Assignment 2 is based on the following text/paragraph of case study/situational exercise etc.

You first need to read this text and then answer the following MCMR i.e. Multiple choice
multiple response questions.
 Number of Questions: 5
 Each question carries 2 Mark
 All Five Questions are Mandatory.
 Attempts: 1

In a passage of Adam Smith's An Inquiry into the nature and causes of wealth of Nations, he discusses 1
the concepts of value in use and value in exchange, and notices how they tend to differ: What are the
rules which men naturally observe in exchanging them [goods] for money or for one another, I shall
now proceed to examine. These rules determine what may be called the relative or exchangeable
value of goods. The word VALUE, it is to be observed, has two different meanings, and sometimes
expresses the utility of some particular object, and sometimes the power of purchasing other goods
which the possession of that object conveys. The one may be called “value in use” the other, “Value in
exchange”. The things which have the greatest value in use have frequently little or no value in
exchange; on the contrary, those which have the greatest value in exchange have frequently little or
no value in use. Nothing is more useful than water: but it will purchase scarcely anything; scarcely
anything can be had in exchange for it. A diamond, on the contrary, has scarcely any use-value; but a
very great quantity of other goods may frequently be had in exchange for it. The water-diamond
paradox, also known as the paradox of value or the diamond-water paradox, is an economic concept
that explores the apparent contradiction between the high market value of certain goods and their
low intrinsic value or utility. Classically, water is essential for life and has a high level of utility, as it is
necessary for survival. On the other hand, diamonds, while valuable and desirable, are not essential
for sustaining life. Despite this difference in utility, diamonds often command a much higher market
price compared to water. This paradox was famously discussed by the economist Adam Smith in his
seminal work, "The Wealth of Nations" (1776). Smith observed that while water is crucial for human
survival and has immense practical utility, it is generally abundant and cheap. Conversely, diamonds,
which are non-essential for basic survival, are scarce and yet have a much higher market value. The
resolution to this paradox lies in the economic concept of marginal utility. Marginal utility refers to the
additional satisfaction or value that a consumer derives from consuming one more unit of a good or
service. In the case of water, even though it is essential, the marginal utility of each additional unit
consumed is low because water is abundant. On the other hand, diamonds are scarce, and as a result,
the marginal utility of each additional diamond is higher, leading to a higher market value. In
summary, the water-diamond paradox highlights the distinction between total utility (the overall
satisfaction or value derived from a good) and marginal utility (the additional satisfaction or value
from consuming one more unit). It helps illustrate how scarcity and marginal utility influence the
market value of goods.

2 In the above paragraph Choose from the following statements which explicitly mention about
diamonds.

High value in use

Low Value in use

High Value in Exchange

Low value in exchange

3 Choose the term used by economists to mention above contradiction.

Giffen paradox.

Water diamond paradox

Paradox of thrift.

Paradox of value.

Paradox of prosperity

4 Choose from the following reasons behind the paradox?

Water table is continuously decreasing.

Diamonds can be manufactured artificially by applying high pressure on carbon.

Water is more frequently purchased by people than diamonds

Marginal utility of water is low as is abundantly available

Marginal utility of diamond is high as it is a scarce commodity.

5 According to your understanding of concepts of Managerial Economics Identify the underlying

principle behind the paradox mentioned above which Adam Smith could not notice?

Marginal Utility of water is lower than that of Diamonds because water is abundantly available.

Total utility of water is higher than that of Diamonds.

Total Utility of Diamonds is higher than that of water.

Marginal utility of Diamonds is higher than that of water because diamonds are scarce.

6 If someone who purchases both diamonds and water which of the following must be true so as to
maximize his satisfaction by consuming both of these commodities. Given that MU is marginal utility,
D is diamond, w is water and p is price.

MU(D)/PD > MU(W)/PW

MU(D)/PD < MU(W)/PW

MU(D)/PD = MU(W)/PW

enabling its nationally-diverse and globally-dispersed professional staff to communicate effectively, in and
outside the organization—in English. They also saw the value in developing a learning program that would
embody and demonstrate the benefits of the cultural changes it was looking to drive. Solution A pilot program,
involving 100 global managers across four countries, tested the effectiveness and challenges of introducing a
digital-first solution. Leadership worked with Central HR teams and “in-country” HR Managers to develop KPIs
that met company-wide goals and local business challenges. The program has involved 20 countries, and over
the past 5 years has been credited as a critical success in the adoption of digital learning as a common approach
to all Pirelli learning needs. Since the company is a global leader in Tyre manufacturing and global work force is
involved in collaboration the primary language of communication has to be English. Result Over the 5 years of
the program Pirelli learners saw an increase in their ability to work in English, saving 1.7 hours per learner per
week as reported by managers. Since 2012, more than 25% of Pirelli’s white-collar workforce have been
exposed to a digital learning solution—exceeding the company’s goal of 20%—with more than 1,400 employees
benefiting from the program. “Learnship’s competence in change management goes well beyond designing and
implementing new L&D programs; we have been fortunate to capitalize on their experience and know-how to
support Pirelli’s HR and digital transformation initiatives in learning.

Understanding the Impact of Advertising Campaign on Consumer Behavior Questionnaire Design: A 1

multinational consumer goods company, GlobalCorp, launched a new advertising campaign to promote its
flagship product, a healthy snack bar. To evaluate the effectiveness of the campaign and its impact on
consumer behavior, GlobalCorp designed a comprehensive questionnaire. The questionnaire was
meticulously crafted by a team of marketing experts and researchers to ensure it captured relevant
information about consumers' awareness, attitudes, and purchase intentions related to the snack bar. It
included a mix of closed-ended and open-ended questions to gather quantitative data on factors like brand
recall and purchase frequency, as well as qualitative insights into consumer perceptions and preferences.
Data Analysis: Upon collecting data from a diverse sample of consumers across different regions, GlobalCorp
initiated the data analysis phase. The research team employed various statistical techniques to gain
meaningful insights from the survey responses. Descriptive statistics were utilized to summarize and present
key findings, such as the percentage of consumers aware of the advertising campaign and changes in
purchase behavior after exposure. Moreover, cross-tabulations and correlation analyses were performed to
identify associations between variables, such as the relationship between the level of advertising exposure
and brand loyalty. Hypothesis Testing: GlobalCorp also formulated specific hypotheses to test the
effectiveness of the advertising campaign. The primary hypothesis was that the advertising campaign
significantly influenced consumer attitudes and purchase behavior towards the snack bar. The research team
employed inferential statistical tests, such as t-tests or analysis of variance (ANOVA), to evaluate whether
there were significant differences in consumer perceptions and purchase intentions between those exposed
to the campaign and those who were not. The results of hypothesis testing were critical in determining the
success of the campaign and guiding future marketing strategies. Multivariate Analysis: To gain a deeper
understanding of the underlying factors influencing consumer behavior, GlobalCorp conducted multivariate
analysis. Techniques like factor analysis or regression analysis were employed to identify the key drivers that
significantly contributed to positive consumer responses. Multivariate analysis helped the company pinpoint
which elements of the advertising campaign were most effective in shaping consumer attitudes, thus
enabling them to refine their marketing strategies and maximize the return on investment. Findings and
Impact: The comprehensive analysis of the questionnaire data revealed promising results for GlobalCorp.
The advertising campaign was found to have a significant impact on consumer behavior, with an increase in
brand awareness and higher purchase intentions reported by those exposed to the campaign. The positive
findings enabled GlobalCorp to make data-driven decisions, allocate marketing resources effectively, and
reinforce their advertising efforts. By understanding the power of questionnaire design, data analysis,
hypothesis testing, and multivariate analysis, GlobalCorp successfully translated consumer insights into
actionable strategies, ensuring the snack bar product remained a leading choice in the competitive market.
In conclusion, a well-designed questionnaire coupled with thorough data analysis and hypothesis testing can
provide valuable insights for businesses to enhance their marketing strategies and adapt to evolving
consumer preferences. The application of multivariate analysis further unveils hidden patterns and
relationships, empowering companies to make informed decisions that drive business growth.

Delhi, the capital of India, has been grappling with severe water pollution for several years now. The city's
water bodies, including the Yamuna River, have been contaminated with toxic chemicals, sewage, and industrial
waste, making it unsafe for human consumption. The primary cause of water pollution in Delhi is the discharge
of untreated sewage and industrial effluents into the water bodies. The city's sewage treatment plants are
outdated, and their capacity is inadequate to treat the enormous volume of sewage generated every day. As a
result, much of the sewage ends up in the Yamuna River, contaminating it with harmful bacteria and viruses.
Another significant source of water pollution in Delhi is industrial effluents discharged into the river. The city is
home to several industrial areas where various manufacturing processes take place, resulting in the release of
toxic chemicals and heavy metals into the water bodies. The impact of water pollution on the health of the
people living in Delhi is severe. The contaminated water is a breeding ground for diseases such as cholera,
typhoid, and hepatitis the poor and marginalized sections of the society, who do not have access to clean
drinking water, are the most affected by the water pollution crisis. The government and civil society
organizations have taken several steps to address the issue of water pollution in Delhi. The government has
initiated various programs to upgrade the sewage treatment plants and reduce the discharge of untreated
sewage into the water bodies. The industrial sector has also been mandated to install effluent treatment plants
to treat their wastewater before releasing it into the rivers. Additionally, several civil society organizations have
been working to create awareness among the citizens about the importance of water conservation and
pollution control. They have been organizing campaigns to clean the water bodies and promote sustainable
water usage practices. Water pollution in Delhi is a severe issue that requires urgent attention and action from
all stakeholders. The government, industry, and citizens must work together to implement sustainable solutions
that can reduce the contamination of the city's water bodies and ensure access to safe drinking water for all.

Kanpur, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, has been plagued by severe air
pollution for several years. The city's rapid industrialization and urbanization have resulted in
the emission of high levels of pollutants, including particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and
sulfur dioxide. A recent study conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur found
that the city's air quality has deteriorated significantly over the past few decades. The study
attributed the rise in air pollution to industrial emissions, vehicular traffic, and burning of
agricultural waste. The primary causes of air pollution in Kanpur are industrial activities,
vehicular emissions, and open burning of waste. Kanpur is known for its leather industry, which
is a major source of air pollution. The industry generates a large amount of hazardous waste and
releases toxic gases into the air, contributing significantly to the city's air pollution levels. The
city's transport system heavily relies on diesel-powered vehicles, which release high levels of
particulate matter and nitrogen oxides into the air. The burning of waste in open areas, including
plastics and other non-biodegradable materials, is also a significant contributor to the city's air
pollution levels. The high levels of air pollution in Kanpur have led to several adverse health
effects, including respiratory diseases, heart disease, and cancer. The city's air pollution levels
have exceeded the safe limits prescribed by the World Health Organization (WHO), leading to an
increase in hospital admissions and deaths due to air pollution-related illnesses. The pollution
has also impacted the local environment, including the deterioration of water quality and soil
fertility. To address the air pollution problem in Kanpur, the government and other stakeholders
have taken several measures. The government has implemented stricter regulations for
industries, including the closure of polluting units and the installation of pollution control
devices. The city has also introduced a public transport system, including electric buses and
cycle-sharing initiatives, to reduce the number of diesel-powered vehicles on the roads. The
government has also launched campaigns to raise awareness about the harmful effects of air
pollution and encourage residents to adopt eco-friendly practices, including waste segregation
and composting. 0
