Totally Enclosed Lifeboat (TELB) designed and manufactured according to latest SOLAS requirements.
The lifeboat provides a secure and protected means of escape for persons onboard vessels or platforms.
The lifeboat is for launch and retrieval by a suitable davit. Design and construction fulfil the need for
reliable, low maintenance standby and operation.
The space between hull and hull liner, and between deck and deck liner, is filled with polyurethane
buoyancy foam. In fully flooded and loaded condition, the lifeboat is self-righting. If damaged below the
waterline, buoyancy is sufficient to float the boat at safe level.
When installed on ship’s side, the boat is fitted with a shock absorbing fender and skates.
The lifeboat is fitted with approved On Load Release Hooks with a hydrostatic Interlock. The hook release
is operated by a handle mounted at the steering position. The mechanism provides simultaneous release
of the two hooks when the lifeboat is fully water-borne. The hooks are protected from accidental release
by the hydrostatic interlock. On-load release of the hooks are possible by manual override, but the system
is secured against accidental release.
Prime embarkation to the lifeboat is through the side hatches. Additional access is via a large embarkation
after door. The side hatches allow pick up operations.
The lifeboat is equipped with mechanical steering. A steering nozzle gives optimum maneuverability and
increased bollard pull. The steering position is at the aft of the boat.

COMMENTS:
GENERAL SPECIFICATION
All boat hatches and doors will be secured from the inside prior to
shipment except for one hatch which will be locked by a padlock and a
chain. The lifeboats will be fastened to wooden or metal transport cradles.
Each davit will be shipped in one or more pieces in a container or on a
flat rack.
2 TRANSPORTATION OF LIFEBOATS\DAVITS
3 UNPACKING PROCEDURE
3.1 LIFEBOATS
Use bolt cutters to remove the padlock and chain to gain entry to the lifeboat.
Once inside, the securing of the other hatches can be removed. Once the seal
and chain are broken the recipient is responsible for the loose equipment inside
the lifeboat.
Note: If the padlock has been removed, the boat has been entered during
shipment.
The packing list supplied by VIKING Norsafe will describe the loose equipment
that are supplied with the boat. This packing list should be checked against the
loose equipment. Please sign the list showing that it is accepted and return the
list to VIKING Norsafe within 10 working days. Failure to return the packing list
within the specified time will be acknowledged as acceptance that the delivery
is complete.
GENERAL SPECIFICATION
3.2 DAVITS
When receiving the equipment, please check carefully against the packing list for
the davits. Any deviation between the packing list and the received goods must
immediately be reported to your VIKING Norsafe contact person. When finished
checking, sign the packing list and send one copy to VIKING Norsafe within 10
working days in order to maintain warranty agreements.
Failure to return the signed packing list within the specified time will be
acknowledged as acceptance that the delivery is complete.
4 STORAGE/PRESERVATION PROCEDURE
Ensure that bolts on inspection hatch are tightened. Terminal boxes on electric
motor must be sealed and treated with vapor corrosion inhibitor VCI.
As the davit is supplied painted to final specification care should be taken to avoid
damage to the paint work.
The davits should be stored on level ground, elevated from the ground on wooden
plank or similar, to avoid damage to steel work. If the davits are to be stored in
the yard it is preferred that they are covered with a tarpaulin to avoid damage
from paint spray, welding etc.
Structural steelworks may be stored outdoors prior to installation without any
further preservation. For davits that are only primed, unprotected storage for more
than 3 months is not recommended unless a further paint system has been
applied.
Be sure to protect hollow sections from water or pollution, as they will be sealed
off when installing the davit. Lifting traverse with wire sheaves and lifting
chains/hooks should be preserved prior to outdoor storage: Use rust preventive
lubricants to lubricate the moving parts on lifting hooks. Then use anti-corrosion
spray on bolts, chains, links, hooks and wire sheaves to obtain a watertight film.
All other parts than structural steel works and the winches and hydraulic cylinders
connected to the davit should be stored indoors. Winches to be covered with a
tarpaulin to avoid damage from paint spray, welding etc. Loose winches, HPUs
and starter cabinets to be stored indoor.
GENERAL SPECIFICATION
If the lifeboats are to be stored in the yard it is preferred that they are covered
with a tarpaulin to avoid damage from paint spray, grinding dust etc. Should the
storage time exceed 1 month, please follow these points:
1. Remove engine start batteries and VHF battery, and store in a dry area. To
be re-charged monthly. Before reinstalling the batteries, check the condition
of the batteries and recharge if necessary with suitable charger.
2. Drain any bilge water. If significant condensation has formed in the cabin, dry
out by venting the boat. Use a portable heater/dehumidifier if required.
Inspect weekly.
3. Ensure hatches are closed.
4. Check engine cooling water / anti-freeze level and top up if necessary. The
anti-freeze should at least withstand -15° C without freezing.
5. Check engine and gear oil level and top up if necessary.
6. The lifeboat is fitted with a sprinkler system. Make sure to open the
sprinkler valve and drain out any trapped water. Close the valve after
draining.
7. For rescue boats, make sure that all drain ports from deck are free and open
and that all hatches are properly closed and sealed off.
Engine to be started monthly to bring the fresh and acid free oil trough the engine
(30 sec is enough). Engine room should be cleaned, and WD 40 or 5-56 should
be sprayed lightly all over the engine and engine accessories. All cables for
remote controls should be moved forth and back while they are oiled, to prevent
them from sticking.
To avoid damage during testing, particularly if water bags are being used, it is
recommended that items of loose equipment remain boxed and removed from
the boat and kept in a secure location until final testing and commissioning is
completed. Drain out and clean the boat after testing. Make sure all hatches are
properly locked afterwards.
GENERAL SPECIFICATION
5 LIFTING PROCEDURE
There are various ways of lifting the lifeboat. One is to lift the lifeboat in the
hook, and one is to lift under the lifeboat using a spreader bar and flat straps.
See drawing on next page.
Check that the davits have been packed according to the packing list.
When lifting the davits, make sure that the painting is not damaged. Use
correctly dimensioned soft slings.
