FOR THE PETROLEUM INDUSTRY
THIS BRITISHSTANDARD, having bcen approved by the Petroleum Equipment Industry Standaï& Committee and
endorsed hy the chairman of the Engineering Divisional Council, was published muer the authority of the G e n d
Council on 30th December, 19ólL
The Institution desires to call zttention to the fact that this British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary
provisions of a contract.
In order to keep abreast of progress in the industries concerned, British Standards are subject to periodical review.
Suggestions for improvements will be recorded and in due course brought to the notice of the committees charged with the
revision of the standards to which they refer.
A complete list of British Standards, numbering over 60ii0, indexed and cross-indexed for reference, together with an
abstract of each standard, will be found in the Institution’s Yearbook.
British Sfallciards are revised, when necessary, by the issue either of amendment slips or rev2ed edtions. It U ìfiportmt
that users of Brifish StanCiardr should ascertain that they are in possession of the latest amendments or edition.

FOREWORD
This ..."..StanL-ri is one of a series prepared under the authority of the Petrol u n Equipmen Industry Standard
Com 1.tee. It is complementary to B.S. 1560, ' Steel pipe flanges and flanged fittings (Nominal sizes K in to 24 in) for
the petroleum indus* '.
In view of the international character of the petroleum industy care has been taken to ensure interchangeability in
practice between flanges of the sizes covered which are produced by British and American manufacturers. At present
there is no national American standard for steel flanges above 24 in nominal size. The dimensions given herein are,
however, in general conformity with the standard practice of the American Manufacturers' Standardization Society of
the Valve and Fittings Industry (SP 44) and with those currently adopted by the principal American flange makers.
Acknowledgment is made to the American Standards Association, the American Society for Testing Materials and
to the American Manufacturers' Standardization Society of the Valve and Fittings Industry for data used.
