HOMEWORK
Consider a reversible elementary aqueous reaction: 𝐴 ↔ 2𝑅. It is found that the reaction has the
standard Gibbs free energy (ΔG°) of -4406 J/mol and standard enthalpy of reaction (ΔHr°) of
-41570 J/mol at 25°C. The specific heats (cp) of A and R are 1000 J /mol.K and 600 J /mol.K ,
respectively. Note that this is elementary reversible reaction and the given initial conditions are:
CA0=1 mol/L and CR0=0 mol/L in the batch reactor.
Also the Arrhenius temperature dependency of the forward reaction rate constant is given by
5424.6
𝑘 = exp(14.257 − )
𝑇
a) Sketch the equilibrium conversion vs. temperature curve of the reaction between 0°C and
100°C. What restrictions should be placed on the reactor operating isothermally if we are
to obtain a conversion of % 50 or higher?
b) Prepare the conversion-temperature chart with reaction rate as parameter (Reaction
rate: (-rA=0.001); (-rA=0.005); (-rA=0.01); (-rA=0.02); (-rA=0.05); (-rA=0.1))
