Vintar: A Community-Based Approach

Abstract

In the face of rapid urbanization and population growth, Barangay Vintar grapples with significant waste
management challenges that threaten its environmental sustainability. This research aims to assess
current waste management practices within this community, evaluate public awareness and
participation in waste management initiatives, and examine the resultant impacts on local
environmental indicators. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, utilizing surveys and focus
group discussions with residents, local officials, and sanitation workers. Key findings reveal that while
municipal policies exist, their implementation is hindered by low community engagement and
inadequate awareness regarding sustainable practices. Data indicates alarming rates of pollution and
declining local biodiversity linked to ineffective waste disposal methods. The research concludes with
actionable recommendations for enhancing community involvement and improving waste management
policies. By establishing a holistic waste management strategy driven by community awareness and
education, this study underscores the necessity of collective action in fostering environmental
sustainability.
