DEVDATTAM BUNGLOW - MS DESIGN STUDIO

With an already designed architectural structure in place,

the interiors by MS Design Studio creates a balanced mix of
minimalist and contemporary design. The client here forms to
be associated with a builder background and thus, had very clear
requirements for the interiors.
2
DEVDATTAM BUNGLOW - MS DESIGN STUDIO

They wanted the design language to be functional and reflect a durable character.
The client’s professional background eased out the process of deriving the match of
materials and design. Their lifestyle is simple and hence, they wanted interiors which
are relaxed and blend with the architectural design as well as the nature of the client.

A beautiful main door with brass inlays and wooden backdrop, gives a warm welcome
to the house. This door serves dual functions with the help of the jaali – screen. This
screen can also open individually and it doesn’t reveal itself as a separate door. A similar
jaali design is seen on the passage flooring inlay right behind the door.

The living room states a contemporary ambiance with a patterned concrete wall with
perfectly selected furniture and furnishings. The living room and garden are connected
by opening up the sliding folding glass doors. In the garden, to maintain a privacy from
the adjoining unit, a self-standing RCC wall is designed. A touch of traditional essence
is realized here with the Madhubani tree engraving on this RCC wall. It subtly gels well
with overall garden concept.

The dining area is a double height space that welcomes the natural light into the center
of the house. A metal screen partition with perforations lets the light scatter around
the double height volume. The patterns of light from this screen also makes for an
interesting sciography along the staircase wall. It also helps to hide beams, and gives a
partial vision of the stairs and dining.

A beautiful hanging light has been designed and made on-site and installed above the
dining space. It has plywood rings fixed together to form a dome. Application of ply rings
are used here due to different reasons: lending a good texture, cost saving factor and is
a lighter material as compared to wood. Other materials used include plywood, metal
sheet and SS wire rope. The house has long passages on all floors. Thus, these passages
are highlighted by giving detailed inlay flooring designs throughout the passage. It has
main flooring as gray Italian marble and inlay of Jaisalmer stone and Australian white
marble. The material palette of the interiors is kept minimal and earthy. Metal, wood,
different types of glass are used for keeping the tone of the interiors calm and in rhythm
with the theme of the overall design aesthetics.
3
DEVDATTAM BUNGLOW - MS DESIGN STUDIO

The house has been planned such that it gives the users a sense of comfort and privacy.
The ground floor has areas like home office, guest bedroom, store room, servant room,
enclosed parking, and a flight of stairs provided in the interiors and the exteriors, which
lead to the upper floors. A lift has been provided too for the ease of movement. The first
floor is a more private zone, with a long passage that connects all the areas. A living-
cum-home theatre, garden area, mother’s bedroom, dining, kitchen, store, utility and
powder toilet are provided on this floor. The bedrooms are kept uncluttered and elegant.
Adding a space for entertainment to the house, the second floor has a multipurpose
room with a small library area, a pooja room, a son’s bedroom and a master bedroom.
Overall, the interiors are kept minimal and simple, yet contemporary.
