COURSE DESCRIPTION Data become the most valuable asset for many modern businesses. The
ability to obtain and utilize data from a variety of sources and making
business decisions based on insights drawn from data become critical. This
course is designed to introduce the concepts and tools used to explore and
analyze data. The focus is on predictive analytics. The topics covered in this
course include: regression, time series, decision trees, random forest, neural
networks, support vector machine, KNN, and naïve bayes.
Prerequisite: BUSS216 Business Analytics I.

COURSE OBJECTIVES This course concentrates on the following objectives:


▪ Develop a comprehensive understanding of business analytics
▪ Develop an understanding of methodological foundations of business
analytics methods and techniques
▪ Gain direct experience with business analytics tools

TEXTBOOK & SOFTWARE There is no required textbook for this course. It is strongly recommended to
bring and use a personal laptop in class. Also, you will need R (https://cran.r-
project.org/) and RStudio (https://posit.co/downloads/) installed on your
laptop.

ATTENDANCE AND The material related to the topics listed in the class schedule will be
PARTICIPATION discussed in classes. You are expected to attend and participate in all
classes. Questions, comments, and solutions to questions are all welcome.

There will be hands on class sessions where you will need to use a laptop.
You are allowed to use a laptop only for these hands on exercises and
maybe for note-taking. Any other use of laptop will negatively affect your
attendance and participation.

ASSIGNMENTS There will be individual exercises at the end of each topic. You are required
to complete the exercises and submit it through the assignment link on
Blackboard. If we do not get your file in on time you will receive a zero (0)
mark and there will be no exception. Please note that we will not accept any
paper copies of your assignments unless otherwise noted in the assignment
write up. Details will be discussed in class.

PROJECTS Details will be discussed in class and the instruction document will be posted
on Blackboard.

GRADE SCALE The student does not have any ‘right’ to a certain grade, but is responsible
for earning grades. The instructor has unfettered discretion to evaluate
student performance and assign all grades.

RECORDING OF Students should not record or tape any classroom activity without the
CLASSROOM ACTIVIES instructor’s written consent. If a student needs to record or tape any
classroom activity, (s)he should discuss this with the instructor prior to
recording or taping any classroom activity.
