Linear Programming Problem

1. In an LPP , if the objective function Z=ax+by has the same maximum value on two corner

points of the feasible region, then the number of points of which 𝑍𝑚𝑎𝑥 occurs is

(a) 0 (b) 2 (c) finite (d) infinite

2. The corner points of the feasible region for a LPP are P(0,5),Q(1,5),R(4,2) and S(12,0). The

Minimum value of the objective function Z=2x+5y is at the point

(a) P (b) Q (c)R (d) S

3. The point which does not lie in the half plane 2x+3y-12≤0 is

(a) (1,2) (b) (2,1) (c) ( 2,3) (d) (-3,2)

4. The solution set of the inequation 3x+2y >3 is

(a) Half plane not containing origin (b) half plane containing the origin
(c)the point on the line 3x+2y=3 (d) none of these

5. The objective function Z= ax + by of a LPP has a maximum value 42 at (4,6) and minimum

value 19 at (3,2). Which of the following is true

(a) a = 9,b =1 (b) a = 5,b =2 (c) a = 3,b =5 (d) a = 5,b =3

6. Solve the given LPP graphically

Minimize Z=10x+8y

Subject to

3x+y ≥ 300, x+y ≥ 240, x ≥ 0, y ≥ 0

7.. Solve the given LPP graphically

Minimize Z=x+2y

Subject to

2x+y ≥ 3, x+2y ≥ 6, x ≥ 0, y ≥ 0
8. .Solve the given LPP graphically

𝑀𝑎𝑥 𝑧 = 𝑥 + 2𝑦
𝑠𝑢𝑏𝑗𝑒𝑐𝑡 𝑡𝑜
𝑥 + 2𝑦 ≥ 100
2𝑥 − 𝑦 ≤ 0
2𝑥 + 𝑦 ≤ 200
𝑥, 𝑦 ≥ 0
9. Assertion (A): If the feasible region for a LPP is bounded , then the objective function

Z =ax + by has both maximum and minimum value

Reason (R): A feasible region of a system of linear inequality is said to be bounded if it can

be enclosed within a circle

a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.

b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
c) A is true but R is false.
d) A is false but R is true.

10.The corner points of the feasible of a LPP are (0,0),(6.0),(4,3) and (0,8). The maximum value

of Z =ax + by is 360 at (6,0) and (4,3)

. Assertion (A): The value of Z at (0,8) is 320

Reason (R): a=60, b=40

a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.

b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
c) A is true but R is false.
d) A is false but R is true.

11. Case study question

To promote sports at National level, the sports federation Academy has given a contract to
make Tennis rackets and cricket balls to Alaska factories. The factory works at full capacity
and a tennis racket takes 1.5 hours of machine time and 3 hours of craftsman’s time in making,
while a cricket bat takes 3 hours of machine time and 1 hour of craftsman’s time. In a day, the
factory has the availability of not more than 42 hours of machine time and 24 hours of
craftsman’s time. If the profit on a racket and on a bat is Rs 20 and Rs 10 respectively, the
factory owner hired Mr Rahul to find the maximum profit of the factory when it works at full
capacity. Rahul formulated the situation into a linear programming problem as

Maximize Z = 20 X + 10 Y

Subject to the constraints

1.5 X + 3 Y≤ 42

3 X + Y ≤ 24

X≥ 0

Y≥ 0

Based on the above information, answer the following:

Q.1 Find the solution set of the inequation 1.5 X + 3 Y≤ 42 .

Q.2 Find the point where optimal value of the objective function is attained .

Q.3 Find the maximum profit of the factory .
