HISTORY
In the year 2017, a small group of pioneering families ventured into the untouched
beauty of the land, where nature thrived unbridled. These families sought to build a
life away from the hustle and bustle of urban living, and thus, Sitio Kamunsil was born.
At its inception, the settlement consisted of only two families embarking on a journey
to create a home in an area characterized by pristine landscapes and untamed
wilderness. Situated in what would later be known as the heart of Kamunsil, the
settlers faced the challenges of living off the grid.
Without the source of electricity, their nights were illuminated only by the soft glow
of lanterns, creating a serene ambiance amidst the natural surroundings. Water, the
essence of life, was sourced from a nearby natural spring, quenching the thirst of the
growing community. As the years unfolded, the resilience and unity of the inhabitants
of Sitio Kamunsil became apparent. Their close-knit bonds and shared vision laid the
foundation for a thriving community.
In 2019, the barangay recognized the settlement's growth and potential, and with
their support, electricity was finally extended to Sitio Kamunsil. The flickering lights of
electricity brought new possibilities, illuminating not just the homes but also the
aspirations of the community. In a significant leap forward, the barangay also provided
access to a communal water supply through strategically placed faucets, relieving the
settlers of the daily trek to the natural spring. This development not only improved the
quality of life but also symbolized progress and shared prosperity.
Fast forward to the year 2023, and Sitio Kamunsil has transformed from a
fledgling settlement into a thriving community. Seventeen families now call Kamunsil
home, with a total population of 79 residents. The landscape, once wild and
untouched, now hosts a burgeoning village where laughter, camaraderie, and the hum
of daily life resonate through the air. Sitio Kamunsil stands as a testament to the
indomitable spirit of its residents, who turned challenges into opportunities and
transformed a patch of land into a haven they proudly call home. As the community
continues to grow, the history of Sitio Kamunsil remains etched in the annals of time,
a tale of determination, resilience, and the beauty that emerges when people come
together to build a better future.

willing to contribute resources to develop their community, like increasing the number of
their comfortable rooms, which would benefit the community and the people. Despite
being resourceful, community problems still exist. If this problem is not addressed
immediately, it can have a big negative impact, especially on people's health and safety.
But if the community receives intervention, it can have a positive effect on the community
and the people.

The Sitio There are mountains, pineapple farms, rivers, and trees all around the neighborhood
of Simbo, Tupi, South Cotabato. The road to the sitio is not paved, so it gets muddy when it
rains. There is a lot of trash and cow poop all over the place. All the homes are made of wood,
and and thers is 1 faucet in the community that’s why you still must wait in line to get to the
water line. According to our poll, the biggest problem is the bathroom. Their bathroom is the only

II. RATIONALE:
The global sharing of toilets and pit latrines in several urban environments is making it
impossible to fulfill a toilet's fundamental health objective of safeguarding the disposal of human
excreta. The aim is to prevent contamination through hands, clothing, water, or food and
inaccessibility to flies and other disease vectors. (Osumanu et al. 2019) Comfort Room provides
a supportive therapeutic environment where individuals can use self-help techniques to manage
their behavior and emotional state in a safe environment. By implementing Comfort Room
facilities in urban areas, individuals are provided with a clean and private space to fulfill their
basic physiological needs. This not only promotes sanitation and hygiene practices but also
helps to minimize the risk of disease transmission. Furthermore, the availability of Comfort
Rooms enhances the overall well-being of individuals by offering a sense of dignity and privacy,
ultimately contributing to the fulfillment of the fundamental health objective of proper excreta
disposal.
The social work 3rd year student visited Sitio Kamunsil, Barangay Simbo. We noticed and
observed that the community is currently facing an evident problem regarding insufficient rest
room facilities. According to the survey, the main concern of the community is installing another
unit to address the said problem. As the population of Sitio Kamunsil grows, the number of their
common comfort rooms is also not enough to cater to the whole population of the community.
The leading cause is a lack of resources for materials used to install another comfort room,
resulting in the inability to afford to buy materials, no proper defecating, and no proper
hygiene in the community.
In response to the problem, with a prospect of hope, the community must put forward a healthy
and clean community, which includes the installation of another unit of comfort rooms. This
sorting strategy has proven to be effective in most communities that have already established it,
as they have maintained a clean and healthy community.
GOAL:
The goal is to enhance the community's health, hygiene, convenience, and overall well-
being by offering easily accessible and well-kept public bathrooms.
OBJECTIVE:
a. To lessen the frequency of open defecation and the health hazards it poses, such as
environmental contamination and waterborne illnesses.
b. To encourage correct handwashing techniques using appropriate handwashing facilities
and teaching programs.
c. To improve security and safety for the public by removing the need for people to search
for other, maybe dangerous, places to sanitize.
To address the current sanitation demands and promote public health and hygiene in the
Sitio Kamunsil community, a clean, safe, and easily accessible public comfort room facility is to
be designed and built. To promote public health, hygiene, and well-being, the Sitio Kamunsil
community must build a public comfort room. This initiative promotes a healthier and more
respectable environment for all people, in addition to meeting urgent sanitary demands. The
community can create and maintain a sustainable facility that meets its needs for many
generations to come by banding together.

MONITORING/ASSESSMENT
The Restroom Project Monitoring Plan aims to ensure the effectiveness of strategies,
identify areas of improvement, and meet goals. It involves weekly comparison of
objectives, daily monitoring activities, weekly monitoring reports, performance review
meetings, stakeholder feedback, a specific budget for monitoring activities, and a
schedule that aligns with the project timeline. Weekly reports will include progress
updates, challenges, and strategies implemented. Deviations from the plan will be
addressed immediately, and the project sitio leader will escalate major issues to the
contributions.
EVALUATION
The Sitio Kamunsil Restroom Project Evaluation aims to measure the project's impact,
identify improvement areas, and ensure accountability. The team will assess the project's
achievement of objectives, identify significant outcomes, and conduct the initial
evaluation. The social work student may be brought in for unbiased assessment. The
sitio leader will oversee the process, while the project team will gather data and provide
input.
RECOMMENDATIONS
The Sitio Kamunsil Restroom Project aims to improve sanitation, reduce health risks,
and enhance quality of life for approximately 79 residents. The project is expected to start
in December 2023 and take 1 month to complete. The barangay officials need to review
and approve the proposal, which will then secure funding and start construction. The
project is a call to action to improve sanitation facilities in Sitio Kamunsil.
Continual monitoring and evaluation are essential to ensure the project's success and
address any issues or deviations promptly. Regular community meetings and workshops will
be organized to educate residents about the importance of maintaining and preserving the
newly improved facilities. This approach will foster a sense of ownership among community
members, leading to a more vibrant and thriving Sitio Kamunsil.
The project's potential long-term impact and sustainability are evaluated, considering both
immediate sanitation needs and community health and well-being positively. Geographical and
resource mapping is assessed for its relevance, offering a clear view of the community's
location, resource availability, and potential challenges in accessing resources. Community
engagement and participation are key factors in the project's success. By involving the
community in decision-making processes and encouraging active participation, the project can
benefit from local knowledge and expertise, ensuring appropriate and effective solutions. This
collaborative approach builds trust and a sense of ownership among community members,
making them more likely to take responsibility for the project's long-term maintenance and
success.
