A. LESSON PREVIEW/REVIEW
Introduction
Good morning/afternoon class, welcome to ART 002 Art Appreciation. Anybody here who knows
people who are very good in production of videos? Did you know that videos posted on YouTube can have
an income if there were 10,000 followers? Interesting videos were sought by product manufacturers and
marketing team and from there, the income goes on? Did you know that you can produce your own video
online? You only need to know the process on how to do that. You will be producing a product commercial
and you are the model. Yes! You can do that, you only need to be pushed a little harder and Lo and
Behold! You can create your own professional video. Our topic for today is about Production Process.
This is another production week. Ok? Let’s start. Are you ready?
B. MAIN LESSON
Content Notes
Directions: Read and analyze the lecture /content notes so you can answer the questions that follow.
PRODUCTION PROCESS
The production process refers to the stages (phases) required to complete a media product, from
the idea to the final master copy. The process can apply to any type of media production including
film, video, television and audio recording. The stages in each medium vary; for example, there is
obviously no storyboard in an audio recording. However the same general concepts work for any
medium.
PRE-PRODUCTION
Pre-production is a fairly loose term which refers to the tasks undertaken before production
begins. Exactly what is included in this stage depends on the medium and situation.
For a small video company, pre-production may refer to everything that happens before shooting
begins, for example, meeting with the client, research, storyboarding, location planning, etc.
For feature films, pre-production is more specific and only begins when other milestones have
been met such as financing, screenplay, casting and major staffing.
Pre-production includes:
● Script writing
● Location scouting
● Prop and wardrobe identification and preparation
● Special effects identification and preparation
● Production schedule
● Set construction
● Script-locking (semi-finalisation of the script)
● Script read-through with cast, director and other interested parties
PRODUCTION
In film and video, production refers to the part of the process in which footage is recorded. This
is what most people imagine when they think of a film being made — actors on sets, cameras
rolling, etc. The production phase is also known as principal photography.
In large feature films the beginning of the production phase marks the "point of no return", i.e.
the point at which it is no longer financially viable to cancel the project. At this point it is almost
always cheaper to continue until the project is finished than to deal with the financial fall-out of
cancelling.
The goal of principal photography is obviously to record all required shots, however it is fairly
common to shoot "pick-up" shots in post-production. Pick-up shots may be required when a
mistake is noticed, a script change is made (this is unusual), or even if a performance is deemed
to be unsatisfactory.
POST-PRODUCTION
Post-production is the third and final major phase of the production process. It is often referred
to simply as post, e.g. "We can sort that out in post". There are many things which can happen in
post-production.

EXAMPLES
2. What is the economic advantage of people in the film production industry? Explain.
Film Producer and investors can make millions in profit if the film produced gathered so much
award in a film festival because people will get so curious to watch it and pay the price.

C. LESSON WRAP-UP
Thinking about Learning
Directions: Since you are done with today’s lesson, please carefully read the question below and
give your honest answer to it.
Did you find this lesson easy/difficult/important? Were you able to meet the learning objectives?
Yes/No/Why? Explain in your own words.
Did you have challenges in today’s learning? How did you overcome those challenges??
Since we know you have questions about this lesson, we write 2 items and answer it on your behalf
so it will be clear to you. Please read the following questions and the corresponding answers to it.
Question 1. What do you think are the challenges faced by a film producer, does he needs so much
money?
Answer: Film producers need so much money because, he needs to pay the artist, the production crews,
provide for location shootings and he must be able to finish the filming of the movie in time, because the
theatres as well were booked in advanced. Natural calamities and health emergencies of movie are
challenges either twist the story board to finally close it.
Question 2. What do you think are the reasons why films are marketed in advanced on TV shows,
Internet?
Answer: The showing of trailers on TV and internet will set the mind of the people to watch the movie
though it is still 6 months after. Or the movie is in the post-production stage.
Job well done! You have reached the end of this lesson.
