Fair Play delivers a time and anxiety-saving system that offers couples a completely new way to divvy up their

domestic
responsibilities. It started with the “Sh*t I Do” spreadsheet – a list of all the invisible tasks it takes to run a home but
developed into a gamified system with four easy-to-follow rules, 100 household tasks, and a figurative card game you play
with your partner.

Activity: Pick A Card!

Let’s say you hold the “groceries” card. You know your kid only eats his hot dog with yellow mustard,
and you notice there is no mustard in the refrigerator or the pantry. That’s Conception. You add
mustard to your grocery list that you create every week. You schedule when you’ll go to the store and
consult your partner and anyone else helping around the house for any add-ons to the list. That’s
Planning. You go to the grocery store so that mustard is restored to the fridge before your son takes a
bite (of what you like to think is the best hot dog in the world, because it’s made with love – and
mustard). That’s Execution. You know how much your kid loves your hot dog and agreed upon always
having mustard at home. That’s your Minimum Standard of Care.

With a partner, you will each pick a Fair Play card to play, and then discuss the CPE and MSC for your
respective card. Make sure to revisit the “Humanity” of the cards. If you get stuck, remember to tell your
stories. The full list of cards can be found on fairplaylife.com.

Card 1: Card 2:

Conception: The behind-the-scenes

mental load where you assess your
family’s overall needs and conceive of
and define the task that will meet those
needs.

Planning: This is where you research and

create an action plan that outlines what is
required to get the task done completely.
Planning also often includes consulting with
other stakeholders (your partner, and
perhaps your kids, caregiver, parents, in-
laws, etc.) for their opinion and buy-in
before finalizing this step.

Execution: This is the final step to get the

job done at an appropriate time while
meeting mutually agreed-upon standards
and explicitly defined expectations.

Minimum Standard of Care (e.g., what, at

a minimum, is reasonable for this card in
your home based on your shared values)
