Welcome to Earth Day!
Did you know there's a special day each year where people all
around the world celebrate our amazing planet? It's called
Earth Day, and it happens every April 22nd. This day is all about
learning how to take care of Earth and understanding why it’s
so important.

WHAT IS EARTH DAY?

Earth Day started way back in 1970. That’s more than 50 years ago! A
wise man named Senator Gaylord Nelson from the United States
came up with the idea. He wanted everyone to learn more about the
environment and how to protect it. Thanks to his idea, every year,
people do lots of cool things to help the planet.

WHY CELEBRATE EARTH DAY?

Earth is our home, and just like we clean and take care of our houses, we need to take care of our planet
too. It gives us water to drink, air to breathe, and so many beautiful places to enjoy. But our Earth needs
help because there are things like pollution and waste that can hurt it.

FUN FACTS FOR EARTH DAY

1. Recycling Benefits! Did you know that recycling paper, plastic, and glass helps decrease
waste? By recycling, you transform old items into new ones without depleting more natural
resources.
2. Trees: Nature's Helpers! Trees do more than beautify our surroundings. They purify the air,
provide habitats for wildlife, and offer shade. That's why planting trees is a common practice on
Earth Day.
3. Importance of Energy Conservation! Conserving energy is significant for our planet. Simple
steps like switching off lights when not in use or using energy-efficient bulbs can have a positive
impact.
4. Mighty Oceans: Earth's oceans are vast and influential, covering approximately 71% of the
planet's surface. They are not only home to numerous species but also play a vital role in
regulating the global climate. Ocean vegetation generates around half of the world's oxygen.
5. Harnessing Solar Energy: Earth Day advocates for renewable energy, with solar power being a
major player. Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity without emitting harmful gases.
6. Diverse Wildlife: Earth hosts over 8 million species, with many yet to be discovered. Biodiversity
is essential for a thriving planet, but numerous species are at risk.
7. The Value of Composting: Composting organic waste diminishes landfill usage and lowers
methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas. By composting food scraps and yard waste, you
enrich the soil, fostering plant growth and reducing the need for chemical fertilizers.
THE EARH
by William Wordsworth

The earth is all before me: with a heart

Joyous, nor scared at its own liberty,
I look about; and should the chosen guide
Be nothing better than a wandering cloud,
I cannot miss my way. I breathe again—
Trances of thought and mountings of the mind
Come fast upon me: it is shaken off,
As by the might of waters; I am laid
As in a dream upon this beauteous earth,
The herded wolves have quit the mountain-glade;
I see by glimpses now; when life was new,
The earth seemed not the earth; I loved and died;
I knew not that the soul was lorn, had fled,
I saw the mighty motion of the globe
No more as something beautiful. Dismay,
With love was mixed; and fear, and faint perplexity;
There was a glistening moisture in my eyes,
A throbbing in the throat, a hurry of the mind,
A pressure of the heart that would not rest
What I had been, what I should be, what things
Were mine to know; such pressure in my breast
As now I feel, for there are moments known
To those who by no other road can reach
The soul, and to its highest seats of thought.
