D What is in?

Electrical Tools

Long Nose Plier – this is used for holding specially in narrow places
and also used in making terminal loop of copper wires.

Side cutting pliers – this tool is used for cutting fine, medium and big
wires.
Electricians Pliers - his is used in the electrical trade to cut, straighten,
and bend wire, and also to twist wires together when making splices
or joints.
Screw driver -is a tool, manual or powered, used for screwing and un-
screwing screws. A typical simple screwdriver has a handle and a
shaft, ending in a tip the user puts into the screw head before turning
the handle.
Wire stripper - a pair of opposing blade like scissors or wire cutters.
The addition of a center notch makes it easier to cut the insulation
without cutting the wire
Electricians knife - used for removing the insulation of the wire.

Claw hammer - is used for driving and pulling out nails.

American wire gauge (AWG), also known as the Brown &
Sharpe wire gauge, is a logarithmic stepped standardized wire
gauge system used since 1857, predominantly in North America, for
the diameters of round, solid, nonferrous, electrically conducting wire.
Gimlet - is used for boring holes that serves as a screw guide

Hickey -is used to bend conduit in small bends with short segments,
for instance, in order to bend 90° bend.

Hack saw – is used for cutting metal.

Level bar – device for stablishing a horizontal plane. It consist of a
small glass tube containing alcohol or similar liquid and an air bubble;
the tube Is sealed and fix horizontally in a wooden or metallic box or
frame with as smooth lower surface
Pull-push rule — is a measuring tape that coils into a compact case.

5
D What is in?

Pipe wrench - is designed to turn threaded pipe and pipe fittings for
assembly (tightening) or disassembly (loosening). is predominately
used in the plumbing industry.
Heat gun - a handheld device that produces a flameless stream of
extremely hot air, as for rapid drying or for softening paint for re-
moval.
Portable electric drill - Its an tool for drilling holes in wood, thin met-
als and other soft materials. It has a motor, as indicated, by saying its
an electric drill. Its portable, which means the electricity is provided
by an attached rechargeable battery, as opposed to a cord-
ed drill that must be plugged in a wall socket.
VOM Multi-tester –an instrument designed to measure electric cur-
rent, voltage, and usually resistance, typically over several ranges of
value.
Digital clamp meter is an electrical test tool that combines a
basic digital multimeter with a current sensor beneath their plastic
moldings, hard jaws consist of ferrite iron and are engineered to de-
tect, concentrate and measure the magnetic field being generated by
current as it flows through a conductor.

8 Safety Precautions Every Electrician Student Should Know

 Don't touch someone who's been electrocuted! ...

 Know your Electrical Code. ...
 Always use GFCIs in damp or wet work areas. ...
 Inspect & maintain your electrical tools. ...
 Follow proper lockout/tagout procedures. ...
 Wear the right safety gear. ...
 Choose the right ladder
 Avoid power lines
Most important rule of electrical safety

- Never work on an energized circuit except if the power can not be disconnected.

Safety Symbols

HAND PROTECTION: safety signs are a visual reminder of the

need to use personal protective equipment (PPE) in the work-
place. The signs indicate the need to use the appropriate pro-
tective hand wear.

PROHIBITION: the act of prohibiting

The EYE PROTECTION SAFETY sign indicates there is the possi-
bility of chemical, environmental, radiological, or mechanical
irritants and hazards in the laboratory.
HIGH VOLTAGE: This symbol indicates high voltage. It calls your
attention to items or operations that could be dangerous to
you and other persons operation this equipment.
This symbol is the “Safety Alert Symbol.” It occurs with either of
two signal words: CAUTION or WARNING, as described below.
SAFETY ALERT: are a medium of communication that convey
information or instructions regarding the physical safety of peo-
ple. Safety signs should adhere to the latest risk communication
best practices as defined by various regulatory and standards
bodies like OSHA, ANSI and ISO.
DANGER: It indicates and imminently hazardous situation
which, if not avoided, may result to serious injury or death.

WARNING: It indicates a potentially hazardous situation

which, if not avoided, may result to serious injury or death.

CAUTION: It indicates a potentially hazardous situation

which, if not avoided, may result in minor or major injury.

CAUTION: It indicates a potentially hazardous situation

which, if not avoided, may result in property damage.
