Olympic games
History
The history of the Olympic Games can be traced back
to ancient Greece. Nowadays the Olympic Games are
held to pay homage to the godsNowadays the
Olympic Games are held to pay homage to the gods
and that's where it’s name comes fromIn this event,
sports festivals were held where Greek wrestlers met
in different competitions and places, from there the
best were chosen and awarded prizes that gave them
great respect and reputation
Curiosities
The first Olympic Games were held
in Athens in 1896 with 14 countries
participating
The marathon distance was set at
42.195 km in 1908, on a whim of the
British royal family
The 5 rings of Blue, Black, Red,
Yellow and Green were going to
represent the first countries to
participate but in the end they
represented the 5 continents
Location
This year they will be held in Paris and will be known
as the XXXIII Olympiad

How does sport influence
today's culture?
Sport connects people and integrates them into a
system of shared norms and behaviours, and so
sports culture breaks down barriers between people,
but not always.And apart from that, each country has
its characteristic sport that is talked about a lot,
people watch it and practice it...
Positive and negative
aspects
Positive
The games will make the
city much more known as
there will be more people
from other places
4 more sports will be added
this year: breakdancing,
skateboarding, surfing and
climbing
Negative
Paris will drop sales as
street vendors will be
banned for the olympic
games
It will take a lot of lights
and machines to illuminate
it, televise it... Therefore
Paris will have a bit of light
and industrial pollution
