want to? If they don’t know how to,
that is a training issue. If they are
saying they don’t want to, it may
be an attitude issue.

want to do it

barbarians because we don’t provide a framework
of values to young people, who more and more are
searching for it”
Small Story

This was a man who failed in business at the age of

21; was defeated in a legislative race at age 22;
failed again in business at age 24; overcame the
death of his sweetheart at age 26, had a nervous
breakdown at age 27; lost a congressional race at
age 34; lost a senatorial race at age 45; failed in an
effort to become vice-president at age 47; lost a
senatorial race at age 49; and was elected
president of the unites states at age 52.
Motivation – Motivating yourself
Inspiration is changing thinking;
motivation is changing action. If the source of
motivation is belief in inner values, it becomes
long lasting.

There is direct correlation between motivation and

productivity. People who do just enough to get by
so they don’t get fired will never be valuable to
any organization.
External Motivation

External motivation comes from

outside, such as money, societal
approval, fame or fear. Examples
of external motivation are fear of
getting spanked by parents and
fear of getting fired at work.
Internal Motivation
It is the inner gratification, not for success or
winning, but for the fulfillment that comes
from having done it. It is a feeling of
accomplishment, rather than just achieving a
goal. Reaching an unworthy goal does not give
the gratifying feeling. Internal motivation is
lasting, because it comes from within and
translates into self-motivation.
Demotivating Factors & Motivators:
- Unfair criticism
- Negative criticism
- Public humiliation
- Rewarding the non-performer which can be - Give recognition
demotivating for the performer
- Failure or fear of failure - Give respect
- Success which leads to complacence
- Lack of direction - Make work interesting

- Low self-esteem - Throw a challenge
