Title: Plant Cell


Aim: To observe the structure of an onion plant cell
Apparatus: Microscope, slide, cover slip, forceps, knife, dropper
Materials: Distilled Water, Methylene Blue Dye, Onion
Procedure:
1. The onion was cut, and a small piece of the epidermal layer was peeled off.
2. The epidermal tissue was stained with methylene blue dye.
3. The stained tissue was placed on the slide with 2 drops of distilled water and
covered with the cover slip, ensuring that there were no air bubbles.
4. The slide was placed under the microscope and the onion tissue observed at
10x and 40x magnification.
Results: Drawing of Onion Plant Cell in all pencil. Must follow below guidelines
 Title in ALL CAPS at bottom of the paper, singly underlined.
 Magnification, singly underlined.
 Labels on one side (all lines parallel to one another)
 Smooth continuous lines (no sketching or double lines)

Discussion:
What type of cell did you observe?
What structures or organelle could you see?
What colour does the methylene blue stain the cell parts?
What other stains could be uses?
What can you use to view the other organelles not observed in today’s lab?
