CHAPTER TWO: WORK EXPERIENCE

This chapter entails the systematic exposition of work done during the industrial attachment as
per my log book.

2.1 ORIENTATION FOR THE COURSE WORK.

The orientation for the course was the first thing into consideration before engaging in any task.

This orientation entailed:

1. A brief overview on what is industrial attachment?

2. Reasons for hosting attachment in the institution?
3. What is my expectations at the end of 3 months of industrial attachment?
4. What are some of the objectives for doing the attachment?
5. The appropriate dress code for conducting industrial attachment
6. Time management and cleanliness was a key aspect during orientation?
7. Field trips was also addressed during orientation and the appropriate dress wear
during field trip preferably white coat.

2.2 CRIMPING

The crimping aspect was the first task to perform during attachment mainly to facilitate network
connection and allow internet access by the various organization’s offices. I managed to crimp
the following pair of cables observing appropriate color code.

2.2.1 Straight through cable

A straight-through cable consists of eight wires twisted into four pairs inside the cable jacket.

Both ends of a straight-through cable follow the same pin configuration, which means the wire
sequence at one end mirrors the sequence at the other end.
T568B Standard (Commonly Used):

 Pin 1: White/Orange stripe (TX+)

 Pin 2: Orange (TX-)
 Pin 3: White/Green stripe (RX+)
 Pin 4: Blue (not used)
 Pin 5: White/Blue stripe (not used)
 Pin 6: Green (RX-)
 Pin 7: White/Brown stripe (not used)
 Pin 8: Brown (not used)

Diagram 2 & 3 showing straight through and cross over cable.

2.2.2 CROSS OVER CABLE

This cable is mainly used to connect similar devices such as laptop to laptop, computer to
computer

The pin configuration in a crossover cable is designed to cross over certain wires to allow two
similar devices (e.g., two computers) to communicate directly.
The cable uses two common standards: T568A and T568B. as shown below

Diagram 4 showing pin configuration of cross over cable

2.2.3 ETHERNET CABLE AND PATCH PANEL MODULES

I also involved in creating various ethernet cables to facilitate flow and sharing of internet.

Furthemore, I created patch modules on which ethernet cables will be inserted while mainting
the correct order of the color code.

The primary function of a patch panel module is to terminate the ends of Ethernet cables
(typically Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat6a) in a structured and organized manner. The diagram below
shows an Ethernet cable.

Diagram 5 showing ethernet cable

2.3 INSTALLION OF ANTIVIRUSES.

During my attachment period I was guided and gained knowledge on how to install Kaspersky
antivirus for windows 10 and windows 11 operating system.

Here was the most appropriate procedure for installing the Kaspersky antivirus.

Procedure for Installing Kaspersky Antivirus

1. Download Kaspersky Antivirus Installer:

o Visit the official Kaspersky website or use a trusted source to download the antivirus
software installer. Ensure you download the version compatible with your operating
system (Windows, MAC OS, Android, etc.).

2. Prepare Your Computer:

o Before installation, ensure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for
Kaspersky antivirus. Also, uninstall any conflicting antivirus software to avoid
compatibility issues.

3. Run the Installer:

o Locate the downloaded installer file (usually a .exe file for Windows or .DMG file for
MAC OS) and double-click to run it. This will start the installation wizard.

4. Choose Installation Language:

o Select your preferred language for the installation process and click "Next" or
"Continue."

5. Read and Accept License Agreement:

o Carefully read the End User License Agreement (EULA) presented by Kaspersky. If you
agree to the terms, check the box indicating acceptance and proceed.

6. Select Installation Type:

o Choose between "Typical Installation" (recommended for most users) OR "Custom
Installation" (for advanced users who want to customize settings).

7. Follow On-Screen Instructions:

o Follow the prompts on the installation wizard to proceed with the installation. You may
be asked to select additional features, configure settings, or specify installation paths.

8. Activate Your License:

o If you have a license key, enter it when prompted during the installation process. This
key is typically provided when you purchase Kaspersky antivirus.

9. Wait for Installation to Complete:

o The installation process may take a few minutes. Allow the software to install all
necessary components and updates.

10. Restart Your Computer (if required):

o After installation, you may be prompted to restart your computer to complete the setup
process. Follow any on-screen instructions regarding system restart.

11. Run Initial Scan and Configuration:

o Once your computer restarts (if required), open Kaspersky antivirus from the desktop
shortcut or system tray icon. Perform an initial scan of your system to ensure it is free
from threats.

12. Update Virus Definitions:

o Immediately after installation, ensure Kaspersky antivirus updates its virus definitions to
protect against the latest threats. This step may happen automatically upon first launch.

13. Configure Settings (Optional):

o Explore the antivirus settings to customize scan schedules, quarantine actions, real-time
protection, and other preferences according to your needs.

14. Verify Protection Status:

o Confirm that Kaspersky antivirus is active and protecting your computer. Check for any
notifications or alerts regarding system security.

The main purpose for installing this antivirus was to protect the staff’s PC against malware and viruses,
real time threat detection, to allow safe browsing and optimizing system performance.
