COURSE OUTLINE
Introduction
This course is offered to all student teachers at all levels. It is a core course in the
teaching profession. A good teacher should be able to properly state the purpose (the
general reason for teaching whatever content they teach), and break it down, in
measurable terms (the instructional objectives) and the expected behaviour change at
the end of course. The behaviour change can only be noticed after examinations or tests.
So all teachers, at all levels must learn how to ask good questions, what answers to
expect, how many marks to award and, what the marks mean (interpretation of the
scores). A deficiency in measurement and evaluation skills and competencies always
leads to mismeasurement of the learners a teacher handles, often with disastrous
outcomes. It is even more harmful to the society as the teacher will have certified an
incompetent person or failed a more qualified person. The course also covers the ethics
and attitudes expected of a molder of another person.
