1-Title:

Methods of statement for brick masonry working.

2-Introduction:

Brickwork is the process of stacking blocks with a


special system and linking them together with mortar to
obtain a single block with all its parts cohesive in a way that
ensures good resistance to the pressures to which it will be
exposed. The mortar’s pressure tolerance must not be less
than the brickworks used in construction.

3-Goal / Purpose :

Different types of bricks play an important role in the field of


engineering construction as they are widely used in
construction. Here are some of their basic uses:

*Construction and construction of walls of various sizes.


*Building floors.
*Construction of arches and interior decoration in homes.

*Building retaining walls.
*Constructing all the various architectural details, including
internal and external fences and walls, and all related
facilities, such as internal sewage rooms, surface tanks, etc.

8-Responsibilities:

*construction manager

The construction manager is overall responsible for


implementation of Methods of statement for brick masonry
working and ensure that his team of engineers and foreman
are aware of this method statement and all resources,

human,material and equipment are available to carry out
the work as planned and without any delay.

*Project engineer

-Provide his site engineer with approved drawings.


-Follow up the site team to use approved materials.
-To ensure all the required equipment , tools and manpower
are available on the site.
-Monitor brick masonry workings.

*QC Engineer

-Ensure that the site team is using approved drawings.


-Ensure that the used materials are approved.
-Verifying that the brickwork works conform to the
approved drawings, such as dimensions, heights, and
technical specifications for the brickwork in the project.
- Ensuring the correctness of the brick building works
implemented in the project.
-prepare the inspection request and the checklist for the
brick masonry workings.

*Safety officer
-Ensure that all equipment are propely maintained and in
safe working conditions.
-Follow up all the safety precautions during brick building
works sush as wearing helmet, safety shoes, overalls,
gloves,and vests.

-Ensure that the working area is barricaded and protected
during the work.

*Site Engineer :

-Follow up the approved drawing of brick masonry working.


-Instract the manpower for brick masonry working.
-Follow up on the progress of brick construction work
according to the dimensions, levels and specifications
mentioned in the approved drawings and designs for the
project
-Follow up the work to bo ready for inspection.
-Prepare a daily report for the complete area brick masonry
working to the project engineer.

*Foreman :
-Get the instructions to start brick masonry working from
site engineer.
-Distribute the labors productivity and their works.
-Preparea all the required tools for masonry working.
-supervise the labors during work.

9-Methodology :

*The drawings approved by the project consultant engineer


are prepared and carefully reviewed before starting the
brickwork work by the project engineer and coordination
with the supervisor and brickwork technicians to ensure the
quality of the work.

*Bricks used for masonry in cement mortar will be soaked
by immersion in water at least one hour prior to start of
actual laying.

*The concrete surfaces adjacent to the bricks must be


cleaned well before starting brickwork using cleaning tools.

*Approved materials for brick construction work, such as


bricks, cement, and sand, are prepared and all supplies of
these materials are approved at the construction site by the
project consultant before starting brick construction work.

* All the necessary tools for the bricklaying process are


prepared and available during the work, such as ropes,
scaffolding, scrapers, hammers, shovels, means of
protection...etc.

*Ensure the cleanliness of the sand and water used in the


cement mortar before starting work.

*Cement mortar is prepared from clean sand and cement


with water content in the proportions approved by the
project specifications from the consulting engineer.

*Determining the locations of walls and building areas is


started using meters measure and marker chalk line by
brickwork technicians under the supervision of the site
engineer and foreman in accordance with the approved
drawings for the project.

* The locations of the openings for windows or doors, if any,
must be determined before starting work according to the
approved architectural drawings for the project.

* The galvanized fishtail is installed and fixed on the


concrete surfaces adjacent to the bricks in the designated
places according to the project specifications before
starting the work.

* The technical and engineering specifications of the project


for brick masonary work are adhered to, such as ensuring
the verticality and horizontality of the walls, the correct
method for stacking the bricks using cement mortar, and
the interspaces between the bricks while stacking them to
form the walls in accordance with the approved drawings
for the project.

* The work is monitored periodically by the site engineer,


ensuring the validity of the ongoing work, and submitting
daily reports on the progress of the work to the project
manager and the consulting engineer on a regular basis.

10-Safety :

*Ensure the availability and safety of all means of


protection, including helmets, protective vests, ropes,
scaffolding, protective shoes, etc., and that all workers
adhere to the instructions of the project safety officer.

*All works shall comply with the safety instructions /
procedure as set out in the approved project HSE plan and
all safety recommendations of local authorities shall be
followed.

*All works should comply with safety procedureinstruction


as set out in project safety plan.

*Basic PPE to be worn by all staff.

11-Attachments :

*Approval forms for materials used in brickwork.


*Approved drawings for the project’s architectural works.
