Allocation Type Type of allocation that is performed. These are the valid
values: PICK-N-SHIP-Commit Inv, Create PckWrk = Commit
inventory, create pick work entries and create shipment
information. Replenishments are not created, even if
inventory is missing. PICK-N-REPLEN-N-SHIP-Commit Inv,
Create PckWrk, Create Replenishments = Commit
inventory, create pick work entries, create any needed
replenishments and create shipment information. Typically,
PICK-N-REPLEN-N-SHIP is selected since top-level items
cannot be created without all of the component items.
Control Description
Pick Status Status applied to pick work when inventory is allocated for
replenishments, cross docking or pre-inventory picking
(PIP). Released, Complete and Un-Assigned are not valid
pick status options for this policy. These are the valid
values: Pending = Pick work product is reserved for
allocation until automatically released by Warehouse
Management . Hold = Pick work product is reserved for
allocation until manually released by a Warehouse
Management user.
New Displays the Perform Consolidation By window that lets you
specify a consolidation code that determines how picks can
be combined on a single pallet.
Delete Removes the selected consolidation code identifier from the
list view.
Allow Carrier Override Indicates that users can change the assigned carrier for a
shipment when they set up allocation in Shipment Allocation
Operations. The Change Carrier option on the order must
also be enabled.
Warn on Carrier Change Indicates that a warning message will appear when users
change the carrier for a shipment while setting up allocation
in Shipment Allocation Operations.
Use Pallet Estimate Indicates that an estimate of pallet picks, volume and
number will appear while planning shipments in Shipment
Planning Operations, and when selecting shipments for
allocation in Shipment Allocation Operations.
Show Allocation Summary Indicates that the Allocation Summary Display will appear
when allocation for a shipment is complete. You may want
to avoid using this setting for sites that allocate numerous
shipments, as it can hinder system performance time.
Apply Carrier Code to Indicates that users can specify a carrier when they set up
Unspecified allocation in Shipment Allocation Operations for shipments
that do not have an assigned carrier.
Allow Destination Change Indicates that users can change the destination area for a
shipment when they set up allocation in Shipment Allocation
Operations.

2. On the Allocation Operations tab, from the Allocation Type list, select the
option that describes the actions that you want Warehouse Management to take
after shipments are allocated. If desired, in the Comments box, type a comment
regarding this change, and then click .
3. From the Pick Status list, select the status (Pending or Hold) that you want
Warehouse Management to apply to the pick work that is created when inventory
is allocated. If desired, in the Comments box, type a comment regarding this
change, and then click .
IMPORTANT: The pick status selected will only apply to allocation that is
performed for replenishments or cross docking. Released, Complete and
Un-Assigned are not valid pick status options for this policy.
Note: This policy can increase the allocation and picking efficiencies in your
facility. For example, if you choose to consolidate allocation by route-to
customer, then when you process multiple orders for the same item with the
same route-to customer, Warehouse Management can allocate the orders to
one pick.
Note: The Change Carrier option on the order must be enabled before users
can change an assigned carrier.
8. If you want a warning message to appear if users change the carrier for a
shipment when they set up allocation in Shipment Allocation Operations, then
select the Warn on Carrier Change check box; otherwise clear it. If desired, in
the Comments box, type a comment regarding this change, and then click .
Note: This option applies only to shipments that do not have an assigned
carrier.
12. If you want to let users change the destination area for a shipment when they set
up the allocation in Shipment Allocation Operations, then select the Allow
Destination Change check box; otherwise clear it. If desired, in the Comments
box, type a comment regarding this change, and then click .

Inventory Control Description
Tab Absolute Order Inventory Indicates that absolute order inventory processing is
Enabled enabled. If selected, then when allocating absolute FEFO,
FIFO, LEFO or LIFO order lines, Warehouse Management
can allocate inventory with expiration or receiving dates that
fall within a configured window of time, even if inventory that
is closer to or matches the exact expiration or receiving date
for absolute FEFO, FIFO, LEFO or LIFO order allocation is
available. The window of time is defined by the value for
Absolute Order Inventory Window.
Absolute Order Inventory Amount of time in relation to the received date or expiration
Window date of date-controlled inventory for an item on an absolute
FEFO, FIFO, LEFO or LIFO order line during which the
inventory is eligible for allocation. For absolute FEFO, the
time is added to the earliest expiration date; for absolute
FIFO, the time is added to the earliest received date; for
absolute LEFO, the time is subtracted from the latest
expiration date; and for absolute FEFO the time is
subtracted from the latest received date. The unit of time
(minutes, hours or days) for an absolute order inventory
window is specified in the Absolute Order Inventory Date
Code box. The ABS-ORDINV-ENABLE policy must be
enabled for this value to take effect.
Absolute Order Inventory Unit of time for the absolute order inventory window. The
Date Code valid values are Minutes, Hours and Days. The ABS-
ORDINV-ENABLE policy must be enabled for this value to
take effect.
Control Description
Log File Enabled Indicates that users can access and view the allocation log
for troubleshooting purposes from Shipment Allocation
Operations.
Force Full Case at Pallet Indicates that Warehouse Management will ignore the split
Pickup case option on an order when allocating full pallet picks to
ensure that only full cases are picked.
Item Shortage Enabled Indicates item shortage processing for build to order (BTO)
is enabled. Item shortage processing provides notification to
the BTO system that an item is no longer available to fulfill
an order and indicates the substitute item that can be
ordered instead. When this occurs, Warehouse
Management automatically marks the short item as
obsolete. Should the site ever receive inventory for this item
in the future and want BTO to order against it, the item can
be communicated to BTO to be used again through BTO
Obsolete Item Operations. For item shortage processing to
take place, it must be enabled by this system policy, and
any item to which it applies must have a BTO substitute item
number specified on the Item Maintenance window.
Comments Text that explains the function of this policy, or explains why
changes were made, and what effect those changes have
on your operations. Comments appear in Policy History
Display and Policy Maintenance.
4. If desired, in the Absolute Order Inventory Window box, type a value that
identifies the amount of time in relation to the received date or expiration date of
date-controlled inventory for an item on an absolute FEFO, FIFO, LEFO or LIFO
order line during which the inventory is eligible for allocation. For example,
when allocating absolute FEFO orders, if you want the system to be able to
allocate inventory with expiration dates that are up to 2 days later than the
expiration date of the oldest eligible inventory, then type "2" in this box, and
select “Days” from the Absolute Order Inventory Date Code list. If desired, in
the Comments box, type a comment regarding this change, and then click .
Note: The Absolute Order Inventory Enabled policy must be enabled for this
value to take effect.
5. If you defined an absolute order inventory window, then from the Absolute
Order Inventory Date Code list, select the unit of time for the absolute order
inventory window. If desired, in the Comments box, type a comment regarding
this change, and then click .
Note: The Absolute Order Inventory Enabled policy must be enabled for this
value to take effect.

• "OR" means that an order that is valid for either group/row is included in the
allocation.
• "AND" means that an order must be valid for both groups/rows to be included in
the allocation.
• "(" and ")" are opening and closing arguments that enclose the rows in a group.
If you have RedPrairie Event Management installed, you can configure an Event
Management event (WMD-ORDER-AUTO-ALLOCATION) to alert you whenever
automatic allocation fails.
Example of This example shows how you can configure Warehouse Management to
Automatic automatically allocate all orders sent from the host system with order numbers
Rule Creation between 100 and 200, or between 400 and 500.
Note: For rows in which a group operator is not specified, the default "AND"
operator is applied.

Group Operator Mathematical argument used to evaluate multiple rows of rule
criteria. These are the valid values: "OR" = Automatically
allocates orders that meet either group of the defined criteria.
"AND" = Automatically allocates orders that meet both groups
of the defined criteria. "(" = Opening argument used to group
rule criteria together.
")" = Closing argument used to group rule criteria together.
Other operators that represent a combination of these
arguments, such as ")AND(" are also available. No selection
(blank) = Assumes a value of "AND" and automatically
allocates orders that meet both groups of the defined criteria.
Table Name Database table that contains the columns (fields) from which
you want to build the automatic allocation rule. These are the
valid values: shipment = Shipment table. ord = Order table.
shipment_line = Shipment Line table.
Field Name Field (column) that contains the value that you want to use in
the automatic allocation rule. The values available in this box
represent columns in the table that was selected in the Table
Name column.
Operator Mathematical or programmatic operator used to qualify the
value in the Field Name column with the value in the Value
column. This qualification is used to evaluate which orders
are included in the automatic allocation. The valid values for
mathematical operators are self-explanatory. These are the
valid values for programmatic operators: In = Indicates that
the value for the field must be included in the comma-
separated list of values provided in the Value column. Not In
= Indicates that the value for the field must not be included in
the comma-separated list of values in the Value column. IS
NULL = Indicates that no value is assigned to the field. IS
NOT NULL = Indicates that some value is assigned to the
field.
Value Value for the field (column) that is used in the evaluation of
the rule. If the value for Operator is "In" or "Not In", then the
value in this column can be a comma-separated list of values.
If the value for Operator is "IS NULL" or "IS NOT NULL" then
no value is required.
Note: If the operator is "IS NULL" or "IS NOT NULL", then do not enter a
value in the Value column.
10. If your rule contains multiple rows, then in the Group Operator column, select
the argument that you want Warehouse Management to use when evaluating your
rule. If no value is selected, then the default "AND" argument will be used to
qualify the relationship between the rows.

15. If desired, continue with Configure Pre-Inventory Allocation Behavior following
in this chapter.
Description You use the Pre-Inventory Allocation tab on the Allocation Configuration
Maintenance window to enable the allocation of inventory that is in a storage
location. The In Line With Allocation check box enables the system to
simultaneously allocate picks that are physically at the pick location, as well as those
that are in bulk storage ready for replenishment.
For an area's unit of measure to be used in pre-inventory allocation it must be defined
as pickable and identified for pre-inventory allocation in Area Maintenance.
