Goat Official PS Portrait Guide
This is the source I will be using. I usually don’t go for pictures where they’re
smiling and looking directly at the camera but the source is crisp so we’re using it.
Pre Colorization
If the source is colored make sure to turn it black and white then follow the
next steps to make it well lit.
Go to Image>Adjustments>Shadow Highlights. Once there turn all the
shadows to 0, turn Midpoint to 15-20, and play with highlights to make the source
dark but with contrast. This should be about what it looks like.
(Remember Highlights depends on the source and can vary)
Next use pure red (#FF0000)and on a new layer color the cheeks and tip of the
nose. Then change opacity to 30 and color the rest of the mid part of the face and
bridge of the nose.
Blur to 7 then and lower opacity to 8 and merge with the skin layer.
Next for the 5’oclock shadow.
This is the color I use.
On a new layer color a circle beard with the grey provided. Turn the brush to 30%
opacity and color the rest of the lower face and neck.
Blur the 7 turn opacity to 10 then merge.
Next go around and erase the skin layer on the eyes and any open mouth. Turn
eraser opacity to 30 and erase the skin around the eyebrows.
Use the eyedropper tool and pick a spot on the forehead where it’s bright and color
the teeth and whites of the eyes. Lower opacity to 25 and blur 2. Then overlay.
Now for eyes. Find the color of the eye and fill in the eye completely then
fill in the pupils with blacks. Blur 2 and set opacity from 30-40
Eyebrows are a bit tricky. Get the color the eyebrows look and desaturate
them a bit. Color in where you erased, opacity to around 30 and blur to 2 then
overlay soft light.
For the lips get a dark maroon color and color the lips set opacity to 30 and
blur to 2 then merge with skin.
Now get the hair color that looks right. Desaturate a bit color the hair,
overlay 60-80, blur 7. If you see any orange spots where the hair ans skin blend
then erase them at 30% opacity.
Next for the suit. Just color the suit and white shirt and overlay at 60 with a
7 blur. Same with the tie but feel free to color mash and less blur.
Next save the photo and export. I use remove.bg to cut the image out fast.
You can also do this in PS. Get the Hoi IV background ready.
Copy and paste the cutout onto the background. You should frame the cutout
so it cuts off about 3 inches below the neck and that there is enough room between
the top of the head and the top of the frame, about 1/16 of the frame.
Next create a new copy of the cutout and place it behind the original version. Blur
it to 4.
Portraits take time so if you ever feel like you’re not improving you’ll get there.
This is my first portrait for reference.
