Use of application examples
Application examples illustrate the solution of automation tasks through an interaction of several components in
the form of text, graphics and/or software modules. The application examples are a free service by Siemens AG
and/or a subsidiary of Siemens AG ("Siemens"). They are non-binding and make no claim to completeness or
functionality regarding configuration and equipment. The application examples merely offer help with typical
tasks; they do not constitute customer-specific solutions. You yourself are responsible for the proper and safe
operation of the products in accordance with applicable regulations and must also check the function of the
respective application example and customize it for your system.
Siemens grants you the non-exclusive, non-sublicensable and non-transferable right to have the application
examples used by technically trained personnel. Any change to the application examples is your responsibility.
Sharing the application examples with third parties or copying the application examples or excerpts thereof is

Security information
Siemens provides products and solutions with Industrial Security functions that support the secure operation of
plants, systems, machines and networks.

In order to protect plants, systems, machines and networks against cyber threats, it is necessary to implement –
and continuously maintain – a holistic, state-of-the-art industrial security concept. Siemens’ products and
solutions constitute one element of such a concept.

Customers are responsible for preventing unauthorized access to their plants, systems, machines and networks.
Such systems, machines and components should only be connected to an enterprise network or the Internet if
and to the extent such a connection is necessary and only when appropriate security measures (e.g. firewalls
and/or network segmentation) are in place.

For additional information on industrial security measures that may be implemented, please visit
https://www.siemens.com/industrialsecurity.

Siemens’ products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them more secure. Siemens strongly
recommends that product updates are applied as soon as they are available and that the latest product versions
are used. Use of product versions that are no longer supported, and failure to apply the latest updates may
increase customer’s exposure to cyber threats.

PDM Maintenance Station V4 – Quick Setup

Entry-ID: 109810636, V1.0, 11/2022 3
1 Overview

1 Overview
1.1 Introduction
This document describes the changes for the successor versions, the PDM Maintenance
Station V4.0 or V4.0.1.
The setup for the PDM Maintenance Station V3.0 is described in the application example “PDM
Maintenance Station - Setting up a Project”. Also, the configurations are described in section 3
in this document and many configuration steps are the same. The application example can be
found under the following link:
https://support.industry.siemens.com/cs/us/en/view/109776936
The PDM MS V4.x can be used in the same way as the V3.
With the PDM MS V4, up to 1000 field devices can be monitored; with the PDM MS V3, it is only
a maximum of 500 field devices.
Major changes in the software are the easier handling of changes in the monitored plant project
through many improvements and enhancements in the "Import from HWC station" function.
There is a third option for exporting parameter data with selectable parameters that can be read
online (faster than reading all parameters online).
The PDM MS V4 is based on Windows 10 Enterprise 2019 LTSC (instead of Windows 7
Ultimate 32-bit).
There is no extra installation setup like for the PDM MS V3. The PDM MS V4 software is
installed directly from the PCS 7 Media Package.
© Siemens AG 2022 All rights reserved

The PDM MS V2 contained an IPC 427E with 4GB and the PDM MS V3 contained 8GB main
memory.
PDM MS V4 can in principle be used with the same hardware, but for an update to PDM MS
V4.x, 16GB main memory is recommended, especially for large projects.
Instead of the internal Soft-PLC WinAC RTX 2010 controller, the SIMIT Virtual Controller,
including a dongle for it, is used.

2 Installation of PDM MS V4

2 Installation of PDM MS V4
To install the operating system, proceed as follows:
1. Install the new operating system Windows 10 Enterprise 2019 LTSC from the restore stick.
Select either “Restore System-Partition (Windows only)” or “Reset to delivery condition” in
the installation process.
2. Install the PDM MS software from the delivered stick or the PCS 7 Media Package:

Figure 2-1

3. Install the SIMIT Virtual Controller. You will find it below “Additional Products” in the folder
“SIMIT VC”:
Figure 2-2

In case of an update from PDM MS V4.0 to PDM MS V4.0 SP1, install the “old” SIMIT VC
NOTE from the PCS 7 V9.1 Media Package. Then you can use the existing license and dongle.
(There are no new functions with the newer SIMIT VC.)

4. Import the licenses for the PDM MS.

5. Integrate the PDM Device Library
6. Activate the PDM server according to section 4.2 in the application example “PDM
Maintenance Station – Setting up a project”:

3 General Settings

3 General Settings
This section describes the general settings to be made in Windows and in the SIMATIC
Manager (after opening/creating the project).

3.1 Ethernet Settings in Windows:

TCP/IP is always used! The ISO protocol cannot be used.

NOTICE => In an existing project, make sure that TCP/IP is already activated on the plant bus before
you connect a PDM MS!

1. Configure a suitable IP address and network mask in the Windows network properties.

Figure 3-1

Use LAN #02 or LAN #03 for the plant bus (can also be a direct connection to a PROFINET
network).
NOTE
LAN #01 can be used for an optional connection to a terminal bus.

7 Overview of Steps for Changing the Project

7 Overview of Steps for Changing the Project

For the PDM MS, there are 3 different ways to update the configuration.

Manual configuration in the process device network view

Can be done anywhere in the network structure.

Export PDM data to the ES project and import this export file
This is possible for single PLC controllers and from a node not higher than a bus system
(PROFIBUS or PROFINET) in the network view. At least the bus system must already be
inserted in the target project (with the correct subnet IDs).
Export either via process device network view or via Hardware Configurator. Import only via
process device network.

Export and import of an S7 / PCS 7 archive with PDM data (“Import from HWC station”)
A project with a PC and Ethernet bus (plant bus) must already be inserted in the target project in
the network view (with the correct subnet IDs).

7 Overview of Steps for Changing the Project

Changes to the existing network structure are indicated.

Single devices, modules or parts of the network structure can be ignored, created (added) or
deleted:

Figure 7-2
© Siemens AG 2022 All rights reserved

Final steps after changes:

1. Update the diagnostics hierarchy.
2. Compile the charts folder with changes.
3. Download the charts folder with changes.
4. Compile the OS with changes (possible also while OS Runtime is activated).

The project network structure including all substructures and all field devices is always
configured in the process device network view (in the SIMATIC Manager of the PDM MS)!
Please note that a CFC editor or a HW configurator for any process periphery cannot be used
on a PDM MS. Compiling and downloading the chart folder is also necessary here, although
no CFC editor can be used!
NOTICE
Do not forget to restart SIMIT VC after restarting the PDM MS.
The CPU cannot be used as an AS with a program (CFCs etc.) on a PDM MS. The PDM MS
must always be connected to a plant with existing PROFIBUS DP masters, PROFINET IO
controllers or HART multiplexers!
