adjustments, or “bumping up” at the end of the semester.

MISSED EXAMS AND ASSIGNMENTS POLICY
There are no make-ups for assignments or exams. In case
of an emergency or an unavoidable circumstance,
students should notify me prior to the date of the exam
or assignment due date, when possible. The key to
avoiding most problems is communication. I will do my
best to accommodate you when appropriate.
CLASSROOM POLICIES
General Policies and Expectations
Students are expected to check their campus email regularly as email will be my primary form of
communication with the class.
Participation in class, where appropriate, is both expected and welcome. In particular, asking
questions in class if you are confused is beneficial to both the instructor and other students.
The best time to ask questions is in class! However, please visit with me during office hours if
questions remain after reviewing the relevant course materials (and come with questions in hand).
Eating during class is considered rude to both your instructor and classmates and is therefore
discouraged. However, water bottles and the like are acceptable, as I may have one from time to
time.
Engaging in private conversations, reading materials unrelated to the class, leaving the classroom
unnecessarily, or any other activity that creates negative externalities for others in the class
should be avoided. This includes the use of electronic devices in the classroom in a manner that is
not consistent with the educational process.
As this is the year 2024, taking notes on a laptop or tablet is acceptable. I may even, on occasion,
ask that students ‘Google something’ for the class. However, if it becomes apparent that laptop
usage has become a distraction, this courtesy will be revoked.
Students should always check the syllabus prior to contacting me with questions related to exam
dates, make-up policies, or other general course policy questions.
Email Communication
The best time to ask questions is in class. That said, emails will be responded to in a timely manner—in
most cases within a few hours, at most within 24 hours. Emails sent outside of normal business hours may
not be responded to until the next business day. Students with questions about topics covered in class
should see me after class, attend office hours, or make an appointment to meet with me (virtually or
otherwise).
Note that, occasionally, I will send out a class-wide email in response to an individual student’s email. Do
not interpret my non-individual response as anything other than my expecting other students to soon be
emailing me with the exact same question.
