GLOBAL LISTINGS: TRANSLATOR’S BRIEF

1. Before you start, please ensure that you have read and understood this brief.
2. You have one document to translate: please see the attached Excel file.
3. You are being asked to translate: Film titles and descriptions, TV Series and
Episode Titles and Descriptions.
4. Please type your English Title and Description translations into the columns
adjacent to the source text.
5. Please note that Film and Series descriptions have a maximum character limit
of 250 characters.
6. Character counts will turn yellow if you have exceeded the character limit. If
this happens, please edit your translation so that the character count is below
the maximum allowed.
7. All copy must be translated accurately and you should ensure that any relevant
nuances are preserved.
8. If you cannot translate a word (e.g. a place name), please type the original
word into the translation column nonetheless.
9. The translations should be fully localised for an English reader, while
retaining the selling points of the original text.
10. They must be free from spelling mistakes and they must be grammatically
correct – this is absolutely essential, so please ensure that your work has been
fully proofread and checked for typos.
11. The translations must not be literal, but an adaptation suited to native English
speakers.
12. Your completed spreadsheet must be delivered as below.

appear on the Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) used by viewers when they are
deciding what to watch.
