5.2 COMMUNICATION PORT CONFIGURE

● If the remote communication with scanner uses a RS232-RS485 converter to communicate with

PC, the default communication port of SFS-1000 is Comm1/Comm2.

● If the remote communication with the scanner uses an USB-RS485 converter to communicates,

you will first find out which communication port is available in USB-RS485 converter

configuration. You can get it along the path (Figure 5-4):

Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/Ports (COM&LPT).

Figure 5-4

You must confirm which COMM Port is available

when the USB converter is connected.
COM4 is available here, while it may be different
in your system.

Next you can configure communication port for SFS-1000. The port must be the same as the Comm
Port which is available when the USB-RS485 converter is connected. You can set the port as shown
in Figure 5-5.

Figure 5-5

The status “COM4 open”

shows COM4 is open.
Set the port to be COM4 which is available (the
port may be different in your system), then click
“Close/Open” to control the selected port.

5.3 DATABASE SETTING

1. The logogram of the Curve Field is C.F.
2. The logogram of the Status Display Field is S.D.F.
3. The logogram of the Parameter Edit Field is P.E.F.

● Status Display Fields

Flame Signal

When the flame is on, the icon is red. When the flame is off, the icon is green.

Error Signal

When the Flame Scanner status is normal, the alarm light is white. When the Flame Detector goes
out of order, the alarm light becomes yellow.

Address

This parameter represents the remote communication address of the flame detector. The range of the
address is 0-127. Each flame detectors has a separate address, as any two flame detectors in a
communication circuit are not allowed to get the same address.

Description

This parameter represents the description of the flame scanner.

File

The current running file is displayed. Choices are A, B, C, or D.

Remote File Select

This parameter represents the mode of the “Remote File Select”, which may be Key, Comm or Line.
When one of these modes is selected, the other two will be disabled.
Key: select the remote file via the keypad on the SA-3000/SP1000/SU2000 amplifier board.
Comm: select the remote file via the software SFS-1000 on the PC.
Line: select the remote file via the external switch or relay of amplifier board.

● Parameter Edit Fields

File Access

Parameters of each file can be accessed by clicking the File-access-option-button in the Parameter
Edit Fields (Figure 5-12).

Figure 5-12

Description of File Parameters

Gain

Gain is selectable from 1 to 50 and the gradient is 1. The system automatically stores this value into
the RAM after the gain changed. At the same time, the Flame Intensity value and the Flame Ratio
will be reflected immediately in the FI and FR curve graph.

Frequency

The Flame Flicker Frequency is selectable from 3Hz to 126Hz and the gradient is 3. The system
automatically stores this value into the RAM after the frequency changed. At the same time, the
Flame Intensity value and the Flame Ratio will be reflected immediately in the FI and FR curve
graph.

Band

The band is selectable from 3Hz to15Hz and the gradient is 3.The system automatically stores this
value into the RAM after the band changed. At the same time, the Flame Intensity value and the
Flame Ratio will be reflected immediately in the FI and FR curve graph.

ON Threshold

This refers to the “pull-up” threshold of the internal flame relay. The ON Threshold can be set from
10 to 1999. The ON Threshold must be at least 10 units higher than the OFF Threshold. When the
Flame Intensity value is equal to or greater than the ON Threshold, the flame relay will be energized.

OFF Threshold

This refers to the “drop-out” threshold of the internal flame relay. The OFF Threshold can be set
from 0 to 1989.The OFF Threshold must be at least 10 units lower than the ON threshold. When the
Flame Intensity value is equal to or less than the OFF Threshold, the flame relay will be
de-energized.

Max

This parameter is the maximum value of the Flame Ratio. The Max can be set from 1 to 1999.The
Max must be at least one unit higher than the Min.
When the Flame Intensity value is equal to or greater than the Max, it represents that the output
current is 20mA.

Min

This parameter is the minimum value of the Flame Ratio. The Min can be set from 0 to 1998. The
Min must be set at least one unit lower than the Max.

14/20
Safe-Fire Inc

When the Flame Intensity value is equal to or less than the Min, it represents that the output current
is 4mA.

OTD

When Flame Intensity value rises to or is above the Flame Relay ON Threshold, the Flame Relay
will be energized after the On Time Delay (OTD). The OTD can be set from 1 to 6 seconds.

FFRT

When the Flame Intensity value drops to or is below the Flame Relay OFF Threshold, the Flame
Relay will be de-energized after the Flame Failure Response Time (FFRT). The FFRT can be set
from 1 to 6 seconds.

Quick Set

Quick Set is another way to set the value of gain, freq and band. Click “Quick Set” to show the
Quick Setting interface (Figure 5-13).

Figure 5-13

File Select

You can manually choose the file to run or edit when “Comm” is selected at Remote File Select. You
should select a file, then click “File Select” button to change the current file.

Restore

Restore the parameters modified last time before download.

Download

Download the parameters of file that you have selected into flash. The system will automatically
prompt “Operate Successfully” when the download is successful.

Copy

● Curve Fields

FFT Tendency Graph

This is a Fast Fourier Transform curve tendency graph. The top of the vertical coordinate can be
adjusted with the default value of 15000. The horizontal coordinate represents the various frequency
points within the range of 6-120HZ.

FR Tendency Graph

This is a Flame Ratio tendency graph. The Maximum value of the Flame Ratio is 100 and the
minimum value is 0. The top point of the vertical coordinate is set as 120 in order to make it easy to
browse the tendency graph in case of full-load. The horizontal coordinate presents the real-time
point.

FI Tendency Graph

This is a Flame Intensity tendency graph. The Maximum value of the Flame Intensity is 1999 and
the minimum value is 0. The top point of the vertical coordinate is set as 2020 in order to make it
easy to browse the tendency graph in case of full-load. The horizontal coordinate presents the
real-time point.

5.4.3 Bar

5.4.5 Study
You can click the “Study” button at the detail interface (Figure 5-11) to start the Flame Detector
Study mode (Figure 5-16). The Detector can figure out the characteristic frequency by scanning the
flame spectrum of “Flame On” and “Flame Off”.
Figure 5-16

Aim Scanner: Click on the Aim Scanner button and “I XX” will be displayed. The “XX” is range
from 0 to 99, which represents flicker intensity of the flame. The value should be at its highest peak
when the scanner is aimed at the primary combustion zone of the flame.
Learn On: Click the “Learn On” button and the progress bar will display “Wait”. The progress bar
keeps refreshing, which will temporarily store the spectrum frequency of the flame. The box
displays “Over” when Learn on completes (Figure 5-17).
Learn OFF: Turn off the flame and click the “Learn OFF” button. The progress bar will display
“Wait” and keeps refreshing. The “Learn On” spectrum will then be compared to the “Learn OFF”
spectrum and the characteristic frequency will be recommended when Learn OFF is completed
(Figure 5-18).

Note: Learn On and Learn OFF must be operated in pair before the characteristic frequency value
is recommended, which may not be in sequence.
