• electromechanic switch for cooler door control (located in the controls of the air box)

- ITZAA 15/31 599 38 97-89

The electromechanical switch controlling the refrigerator door is actioned by the inner door.
The function of the cooler door switch is:
• controlling the switching on and off of the lamp
• sending the open door button to the ERF550 electronic board
The battery evaporator defrosting is driven by the electronic board and depends also on the detection of the
opening of the cooler door.

6 MAIN FUNCTIONS

6.1 Normal

Warning: Unplug the appliance before operating.

In case of first switching on with a freezer compartment temperature higher than 10 °C, the appliance operates
with a test cycle (for the factory) for a maximum time of about 1,5 hours.
In this period do not check the correct functioning of the appliance, since the loads are activated only for internal
check (compressor, fan and defrosting heater).
If the appliance is disconnected from the mains power supply:
• the compressor is off
• the LED bar display is off
When the appliance is connected to mains power supply, the display is switched on and the temperature is
displayed through the lighting up of the corresponding LED.
Regulate the temperature of the cooler compartment pushing the temperature selection button so as to set the
following value:
• +5 °C in the cooler
When the cooler door is closed, then all the LEDs are off.
In NOFROST freezers, the humidity inside the freezer compartment accumulates on the evaporator battery
thanks to the air circulation, thus preventing the formation of frost on food.
During the normal operation time, the electronic board powers the compressor and the cold module fan circuits.
The fan and the compressor are powered in parallel, thus they are activated and deactivated at the same time.
The operation time that corresponds to the interval between the following defrosting lasts about 14 hours with
normal openings of the door (it can last up to 72 hours if the doors are never opened!).

6.2 Normal with first switching on or power failure

In case of fault when the appliance is switched on for the first time or in case of a power failure, one of the two
conditions described below occurs:
1. If the internal temperature is higher or the same as the sensor cut-in temperature (CUT-IN), when the power
is restored, the electronic board activates the compressor and the fan till the set temperature is reached and
after 5 hours the electronic board activates the defrosting procedure (after the compressor cut-out)

2. If the internal temperature is lower than the sensor cut-in temperature (CUT-IN), when the power is restored,
the compressor functions in thermostatic conditions and after 5 hours the electronic board activates the de-
frosting procedure (after the compressor cut-out)
The electronic board activates, in any case, the defrosting procedure 5 hours after the first switching on and
after a power failure.

6 FUNCIONES PRINCIPALES

6.1 normal

- ITZAA 19/31 599 38 97-89

6.3 Defrosting
All the humidity in the compartment accumulates on the evaporator, which is the coldest part of the compart-
ment; periodically, about every 14 hours with normal door opening (up to 72 hours if the doors never open!), it
is then necessary to defrost the ice on the battery.
The defrosting starts after the compressor cut-out or if the compressor is on after 2,5 hours max.
The electronic board disconnects immediately the circuit that powers the compressor and the fan, waits 3 min-
utes and then it powers the circuit of the defrosting heater for a minimum time of about 20 minutes.
The heat generated by the defrosting heater does not affect the freezer compartment temperature or the food
packages temperature, because the thermal energy is consumed in the defrosting process of the evaporator
ice.
After 20 minutes, the electronic board checks the state of the thermal switch of the end of defrosting every
minute to detect the cut-out.
When the switch of the end of defrosting cuts out, the electronic PCB stops the defrosting procedure and the
compressor as well as the fan do not operate until 60 minutes from the beginning of the defrosting cycle have
elapsed.
If for any reason, the defrosting cut-out switch does not switch on and the battery temperature rises up to 40
°C, the defrosting heater will be switched off by the safety thermal switch.
If 1 hour after the starting of the defrosting, the thermal switches did not cut out, the electronic board switches
the defrosting heater off in any case and continues its operation.
The electronic PCB activates the compressor and the fan only 60 minutes after the beginning of the defrosting
procedure

6.5 Malfunctioning of cooler air temperature sensor
If during the normal operation a failure occurs to the cooler NTC temperature sensor (the signal coming from
the sensor is out of range), then:

• All the LEDs of the display flash simultaneously

• The appliance operates with a preset cycle when the compressor is powered for 20 minutes and
remains off for 30 minutes alternatively

When the sensor operates again normally, the above described conditions terminate.

Warning: Unplug the appliance before operating.

8.1 Water leakage inside the freezer compartment

In No Frost freezers, at the end of the water drain hose, in correspondence to the compressor drop tray, a rub-
ber valve is inserted to avoid that the water enters the freezer compartment thus causing an excessive ice for-
mation on the battery evaporator.
If the rubber valve is obstructed by foreign bodies, then there could be some water in the freezer compartment.
To avoid the described problem, it is necessary to clean the valve under running water or replace it.

9 SPECIAL FUNCTIONS

9.1 Manual defrosting

To carry out the test cycle and maintenance, a new manual defrosting procedure has been introduced, which
has to be performed by cold internal temperature (to avoid the possible opening of the thermal switches of the
defrosting heater.
To start the manual procedure operate as follows:
• open the cooler door
• hold down the temperature selection button
• push the cooler door button for 5 times within a 6-second interval
At this point the electronic board:
• activates the buzzer that emits a long beep
• switches on and off the two groups of LEDs of the temperatures (+2 +5 +8) and (+4 +6) alternatively
In this case the electronic PCB performs the standard defrosting cycle: when the cycle has come to the end,
the appliance starts operating normally.
