Inhalation Remove affected person from source of contamination. Get medical attention if any discomfort
continues. When breathing is difficult, properly trained personnel may assist affected person
by administering oxygen.
Ingestion Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Do not induce vomiting. Rinse
mouth thoroughly with water. Give plenty of water to drink. DO NOT induce vomiting. Get
medical attention immediately. If vomiting occurs, the head should be kept low so that vomit
does not enter the lungs.
Skin contact Rinse immediately with plenty of water. Continue to rinse for at least 15 minutes. Remove
contaminated clothing and rinse skin thoroughly with water. Get medical attention
immediately. Chemical burns must be treated by a physician.
Eye contact Rinse immediately with plenty of water. Remove any contact lenses and open eyelids wide
apart. Continue to rinse for at least 15 minutes and get medical attention. Get medical
attention.
4.2. Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed
General information See Section 11 for additional information on health hazards.
4.3. Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
Notes for the doctor No specific recommendations. If in doubt, get medical attention promptly.
Suitable extinguishing media Extinguish with foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder or water fog. Use fire-extinguishing media
suitable for the surrounding fire.
Specific hazards Sodium hypochlorite becomes oxidising as it dries and can cause spontaneous fires under the
correct conditions. Beware of small spillages and thoroughly rinse cloths/rags/mops used to
clean spillages.
Hazardous combustion Thermal decomposition or combustion products may include the following substances:
products Chlorine. Oxygen.
Special protective equipment Wear positive-pressure self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and appropriate protective
for firefighters clothing.

Methods for cleaning up Absorb spillage with inert, damp, non-combustible material. Flush contaminated area with
plenty of water. Do not allow spillages to dry out, flush thoroughly with water. Collect and
place in suitable waste disposal containers and seal securely. Label the containers
containing waste and contaminated materials and remove from the area as soon as possible.
If involved in a fire, shut off flow if it can be done without risk. Containers with collected
spillage must be properly labelled with correct contents and hazard symbol.
Reference to other sections Wear protective clothing as described in Section 8 of this safety data sheet. Collect and
dispose of spillage as indicated in Section 13.
Usage precautions Avoid spilling. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Provide adequate ventilation. Avoid inhalation
of vapours. Use approved respirator if air contamination is above an acceptable level. Eye
wash facilities and emergency shower must be available when handling this product.
Protective equipment
Hand protection Wear protective gloves. Rubber (natural, latex). Neoprene. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The most
suitable glove should be chosen in consultation with the glove supplier/manufacturer, who can
provide information about the breakthrough time of the glove material. It should be noted that
liquid may penetrate the gloves. Frequent changes are recommended.

Other skin and body Wear appropriate clothing to prevent any possibility of liquid contact and repeated or
protection prolonged vapour contact. Wear apron or protective clothing in case of contact.
Hygiene measures Provide eyewash station and safety shower. Wash hands at the end of each work shift and
before eating, smoking and using the toilet. Promptly remove any clothing that becomes
contaminated. When using do not eat, drink or smoke. Wash promptly with soap and water if
skin becomes contaminated. Use appropriate skin cream to prevent drying of skin. Wash
contaminated clothing before reuse.
Respiratory protection Respiratory protection must be used if the airborne contamination exceeds the recommended
occupational exposure limit. If ventilation is inadequate, suitable respiratory protection must
be worn. Chemical respirator with organic vapour cartridge.
Odour Chlorine.
