resulted in an odd number.

Ans

Ans

6 A card is drawn from deck of 52 cards. What is the probability that it is king?

Ans The number of ways choosing 1 king out of 4 kings is 4C1.

The number of ways choosing 1 card out of 52 cards is 52C1.
The probability is 4C1/52C1 = 4/52 = 1/13

7 A bag contains four cards marked as 5, 6, 7 and 8. Find the sample space if two cards are drawn at random
with replacement

Ans The bag contains 4 cards marked 5, 6, 7 and 8.

Two cards are to be drawn from this bag.
If the two cards are drawn with replacement, then the sample space is S = {(5, 5), (5, 6), (5, 7), (5, 8), (6, 5),
(6, 6), (6, 7), (6, 8), (7, 5), (7, 6), (7, 7), (7, 8), (8, 5), (8, 6), (8, 7), (8, 8)}

8 If P(A) = 0.3, P(B)= 0.7 and P(B/A) = 0.5. What is the value of P(A⋃B)?

Ans P(B/A) = P(A⋂B)/P(A)

0.5 = P(A⋂B)/0.3
P(A⋂B) = 0.15
So,
P(A⋃B) = P(A) + P(B) – P(A⋂B)
= 0.3 + 0.7 – 0.15
= 0.85

1/30/24, 11:59 PM Question Answer Paper

Ans In n-sided polygon, there are 'n' points and 'n' sides.
Through 'n' points we can draw nC2 lines including sides.
Number of diagonals in n sided polygon = nC2 – n (n = number of sides)
n = 10, nC2 – n = 10C2 – 10
= – 10 = 35

2 A teacher has 2 different books on English, 3 different books on Physics, and 4 different books on
Mathematics. These books are to be placed in a shelf so that all books on any one subjects are together. How
many different ways are there to do this?

Ans First, let us consider all books on each subjects to be one set, so that there are three sets, say E,P,M. These
three can be arranged in ³P₃ = 3! = 6 different ways. Now, in each of these ways, the 2 books on English can
be arranged in ²P₂ = 2! = 2 different ways the 3 books on physics can be arragned in ³P₃=3! = 6 different ways,
and the four books on Mathematics can be arranged in ⁴P₄= 4! = 24 different ways.
The required number of arrangments is then given by 6×2×6×24 = 1728

3 Find n and r if.

nP : 720 and nP
r n – r = 120

Ans r! = 6

7 Fifteen persons sit around a table. Find the number of arrangements that have two specified persons not
sitting side by side.

Ans 2 particular persons can't be sitting side by side.

The other 13 persons can be arranged around the table in (13 – 1)! = 12!
The two persons who are not sitting side by side may take 13 positions created by persons in 13P2 ways.
Total number of arrangements in which two specified persons not sitting side by side

55 – r = 10
r = 55 – 10
r = 45

Ans We are given that nP5 = 42 × nP3

That is, = 42 n!

(n−5)!
n!

(n−3)!

n!

(n−5)!
= 42 n!

(n−3) (n−4)(n−5)!

∴ (n – 3) (n – 4) = 42
∴ (n – 3) (n – 4) = 7 × 6
∴ n–3=7
∴ n = 3 + 7 = 10
