I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
● Practice the linking of movement skills to produce individual and pair sequences on the floor and using apparatus balancing on a bench.
● Jumping from the bench to a mat and travelling across the mat by rolling.

Balance is the ability to hold your body upright and steady without falling down! This could be in sitting or
standing, moving or standing still, with eyes open or closed.
Work on balance
Encourage your child to balance on one leg, and then the other for as long as possible. Use balance beams
2. ( 10 mins) or “walk the line” with a piece of painters tape on the floor. Nature playscapes are also great for this, they
usually have large logs for balancing on.

3. (10 mins) Innovative climbers


Innovative climbers encourage children to develop balance and coordination, as well as motor skills,
because they can use their bodies in unique ways. In comparison, traditional climbers usually feature either
ropes, steps or a rocklike surface with hand- and footrests to allow children to ascend up a wall-like
structure.
This game is similar to musical chairs, except the chairs are replaced by partners “sitting”
back-to-back.
• When the music starts, children must move around the activity space.
• Leader specifies different locomotor movement each time (e.g. walk, run, hop,
gallop, skip).
• When the music stops, children must find a partner, stand back-to-back, and then both
pretend to “sit” as if they have chairs.
• The child who fails to find a partner, or the last set of partners to make a “chair,” must do

10 star jumps and then rejoin the group.
• Play several rounds. Be sure to mix partners by naming new conditions each round. For
example:
» Girls with boys.
» Different partner than last time.
» Someone wearing the same colour as you.
