2023-24 Sport Investment Program Highlights and

20245-25 Allocation Announcement

I’m delighted to introduce the Department of Sport and Recreation’s announcement for the
2024/25 Sport Investment Program. This initiative underscores our commitment to fostering
sport and recreation at every level. An essential component of our strategy is supporting National
Sport Governing Bodies (NSGBs) in establishing sustainable, effective pathways to increase
participation and enhance performance.

Through the Sport Investment Program, we provide crucial funding to NSGBs, enabling the
development of athletes, coaches, and sports programs. The growing number of recognized
NSGBs reflects positively on sport in Bermuda, demonstrating robust governance and
development within these organizations. The Department of Sport and Recreation remains
dedicated to maintaining a transparent funding process for NSGBs, grounded in accountability,
equity, and tangible outcomes. This effort is part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to
affirming the vital role of sport in our community and how Sport Matters!

Yours sincerely,

Senator the Hon. Owen K. Darrell, JP

Sport Investment Program Framework
The Department wishes to see a diverse range of sports available to the Bermudian public and continues
to invest in a wide variety of NSGB’s as we look to meet outcomes surrounding increased participation and
improved performance, as indicated in the National Sports Policy, 2022-27. The Department will invest in
the following categories:
High Performance: Investment in High Performance through the Elite Athlete Fund, managed by the
Bermuda Olympic Association and the Elite Athlete Sponsorship Fund managed by the Department of
Sport and Recreation. Funding is also provided to NSGB’s to assist with the delivery of their Senior and
Junior National Programs through the SIP.
Junior & Senior Programming: Investment in grassroots and senior programs to increase development,
sustainability and performance. Programs such as these are imperative for the future progression of all
NSGB’s. The Department will also invest in necessary equipment associated with these programs to ensure
feasibility.
Coach & Official Development: Investment in coach and official education will ensure there are quality
local coaches within each respective NSGB as this will assist with achieving Department priorities for
NSGB’s with athlete retention and performance.
