SECTION A (60 marks)
4. (a) If the midpoint of the line segment joining the point A(3,4) and B(k,6) is (𝑥, 𝑦). If (𝑥, 𝑦) lies on the
line whose equation is 𝑥 + 𝑦 = 10. Find the value of k.

(b) Given vectors, 𝑎= 𝑖+ 3 𝑗 , 𝑏 = 3 𝑖 + 3 𝑗 and 𝑐 = 𝑖 +6𝑗

5. (a) Find the circumference of the circle whose area is equal to the sum of the areas of the three circles
with radius 2cm, 3cm and 6cm.
(b) i) The interior angle of a regular polygon exceeds the exterior angle by 150°. Find the number of
sides of that polygon.
(ii) In the figure below, calculate the length𝐷𝐸. If the length 𝐴𝐶 = 6𝑐𝑚, 𝐶𝐸 = 18𝑐𝑚,
𝐷𝐶 = 12𝑐𝑚, 𝐶𝐸 = 10𝑐𝑚.
6. (a) Twelve people can dig a trench in 15days for 8 hours daily. How long can they take to find the same
work, working for 10 hours daily?
(b) The mass (m) which can be supported by a beam varies directly with the breath (b) and inversely with
the length (l). If a beam of breath 2m and length 15m can support a mass of 200kg. What mass can be
supported by a beam which is 3m bread and 20m long?

7. a) Abdallah wants to invest a certain sum of money so that its value after 3 years will be 100,000/=
shillings. How much amount of money should be invested at 5% per annum compound interest?
