SECTION 3 HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
No significant hazard
SECTION 4 FIRST AID MEASURES
Eyes : Wash eye thoroughly with copious quantities of water, ensuring eyelids are held
open. Obtain medical advice if any pain or redness develops or persists.
Skin : Wash skin thoroughly with soap and water as soon as reasonably practicable. Remove
heavily contaminated clothing and wash underlying skin.
Ingestion : If contamination of the mouth occurs, wash out thoroughly with water, and send
to hospital immediately. Show this data sheet to the physician.
Except as a deliberate act, the ingestion of large amounts of product is unlikely. If it should
occur, do not include vomiting, obtain medical advice.
Inhalation : Remove to fresh air. If rapid recovery does not occur, obtain medical advice.
Medical advice : Treatment should in general be symptomatic and directed to relieving any
effects.
SECTION 5 FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
EXTINGUISHING MEDIA
Appropriate Extinguishing Media : Use dry chemical, carbon dioxide, halon, or foam to
extinguish flames.
Inappropriate Extinguishing Media : Straight streams of water.
SECTION 6 ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
SPILL MANAGEMENT
Land Spill : Stop source of ignition. Prevent additional discharge of material, if possible to do
so safely. Contain and/or clean up with sand or earth on land.
ENVIRONMENTAL PRECATIONS
Prevent entry into waterways, drains or sewers.
SECTION 7 HANDLING AND STORAGE
HANDLING
Keep container tightly closed. Eating, drinking and smoking should be prohibited from areas
where this material is handled. Wash hands and face before eating.
STORAGE
Store in a cool well ventilated place, away from heat and/or incompatible materials.
SECTION 8 EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION
ENGINEERING CONTROLS :
No special requirements under ordinary conditions of use and with adequate ventilation.
PERSONAL PROTECTION
Personal protective equipment selections vary based on potential exposure conditions such
as applications, handling practices, concentration and ventilation. Information on the
selection of protective equipment for use with this material, as provided below, is based
upon intended, normal usage.
Respiratory Protection :
No special requirements under ordinary conditions of use and with adequate ventilation.
Hand Protection :
Protective Gloves.
Eye Protection :
If contact is likely, safety glasses with side shields are recommended.
Skin and Body Protection :
Protective clothing.
SECTION 9 PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
Typical physical and chemical properties are given below. Consult the supplier in Section 1
for additional data.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Physical State : Liquid
Color : Amber
Odor : Characteristic
Flash Point : >190 °C
Pour Point : -6 °C
Viscosity Index : 100 min
SECTION 10 STABILITY AND REACTIVITY
STABILITY : Material is stable under normal conditions.
CONDITIONS TO AVOID : Excessive heat.
MATERIALS TO AVOID : Strong oxidizers
HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS : Material does not decompose at ambient
temperatures.
SECTION 11 TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Acute Health Hazard & Advice : Toxicity following single exposure to high levels (orally,
dermally, or by ingestion) is of a low order. The main hazards are in the unlikely event of
ingestion, aspiration into the lungs with possible resultant chemically induced pneumonia
and if the products are handled at high pressure, of high pressure injection injuries.
Eyes : Eye contact may cause some discomfort. Flush the eye with copious quantities of
water. If the irritation persists refer for medical attention. If there is a risk of splashing whilst
handling this liquid appropriate eye protection should be worn.
Skin : Skin contact presents no acute health hazard, except in the case of high pressure
injection injuries. These can lead to the loss of the affected limbs if not treated immediately
and properly. Avoid contact with the skin by the use of suitable protective clothing. Where
skin contact is unavoidable, a high standard of personal hygiene should be practiced.
Extreme care should be exercised where the product is likely to be encountered at high
pressures, when it is recommended that safe systems of work be employed. Skin contact
does not normally require first aid, but oil soaked clothing should be removed, and
contaminated skin washed with soap and water.
If persistent irritation occurs, medical advise should be sought without delay.
Ingestion : The main hazard following ingestion is of aspiration into the lungs during
subsequent vomiting.
Accidental ingestion is unlikely. Normal handling and hygiene precautions should be taken
to avoid ingestion. DO NOT induce vomiting. If ingestion is suspected, wash out the mouth
with the mouth with soap and water, and send to hospital immediately. Show this data
sheet to the physician drawing attention to the “Notes for Doctors” below.
Inhalation : Under normal conditions of use inhalation of vapours is not likely to present a
hazard. Care should be taken to keep exposures below applicable occupational exposure
limits by the use of general or local ventilation. If this cannot be achieved, use of a respirator
fitted with an organic vapour cartridge combined with a particulate pre-filter. Remove to
fresh air. If rapid recovery does not occur, obtain medical attention.
SECTION 12 ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION
Air : Mineral base oil is a mixture of non-volatile components, which are not expected to be
released to air in any significant quantities. The negligible quantities that do evaporate react
quickly with hydroxyl radicals and ozone.
Water : If released to water, Laboil Ultralab HD Compressor will disperse as an emulsion.
Its components will not evaporate to any great extent. Dissolved components will be
absorbed in sediments. In aerobic water and sediments they will biodegrade, but in
anaerobic conditions they will persist. Mineral base oil is not toxic to aquatic organisms but
all components have a high potential to bio-accumulate. It is unlikely to persist in the
aquatic environment for sufficient time to pose a significant hazard.
Soil : Small volumes released on land will be absorbed in the upper soft layers and be
subject to biodegradation. Larger volumes may penetrate into anaerobic soil layers in which
the mineral base oil will persist. It may reach the water table, in which it will disperse. The
high soil absorption coefficient of the components may prevent significant contamination of
the ground water. The product will move with the groundwater. The movement of the
product can lead to contamination of sources of drinking water. Mineral base oil has a high
potential to bio-accumulate.
SECTION 13 DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS
Disposal must be in accordance with current applicable regional, national and local laws and
regulations.
SECTION 14 TRANSPORT INFORMATION
Not dangerous for transportation.
SECTION 15 REGULATORY INFORMATION
Hazard symbols : No significant hazard.
Safety phrases : S2 : Keep out the reach of childern.
S24/25 : Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
S28 : After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of water.
S36 : Wear suitable protective clothing.
Note : The regulatory information given above only indicates the principal regulations
specifically applicable to the product described in the safety data sheet. The user’s attention
is drawn to the possible existence of additional provisions which complete these
regulations. Refer to all applicable national, international and local regulations or provisions.
