1. INTRODUCTION

1.1. Background

E-commerce, also known as electronic commerce, is the buying and selling of goods and
services over the internet. In today’s digital age, the convenience and accessibility of
online shopping have become a significant aspect of consumer behavior. In the context of
online shopping of electronic devices, e-commerce allows consumers to interact with
business and governments through various partnerships such as Business-to-Consumer
(B2C), Business-to-Business(B2B), and Consumer-to-Government (C2G)

The first online transaction was conducted in 1994, and since then, the industry has
grown exponentially. As of 2024, global e-commerce sales are projected to surpass $6.3
trillion, driven by increasing internet penetration, the rapid growth of smartphones, and
advancements in payment and logistics infrastructure.

Key Functionalities and Areas


1. User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) Design
a) Homepage: The homepage serves as the first point of contact for users,
featuring promotional banners, featured products, and navigation menus.
b) Product Pages: These pages provide detailed information about individual
products, including images, descriptions, prices, and customer reviews.
c) Search: A quick search option for the searching of the required products.
2. Top-Notch Images and Videos: providing high quality product images
assist in purchase decisions and reduce returns.
3. Responsive Design and Mobile Optimization: It ensures a consistent
surfing experience across devices.
4. Order Management:

a) Order processing: Tools for viewing, updating, and managing customer
orders.
5. Shopping Cart: Enables users to add products they intend to purchase, provides
a summary of selected items, quantities, prices, and total cost and last offers
option to update quantities or remove items.
6. Customer Management
a) User Accounts: Features for customers to create accounts, save address, and
view order history.
7. Management of Sales Discounts and Promotions: Applying different
discounts and introducing new promotional offers.

Motivation for the study


Choosing an e-commerce website as our minor project has several motivating factors:

 With the continuous rise of online shopping, there is a high demand for
professionals who can develop and manage e-commerce platforms. This project
can provide us with skills that are in demand in the job market.
 E-commerce website allows us to develop broad skill set such as web
development, database management, security protocols.
 E-commerce is a rapidly growing industry, working on such a project can provide
practical experience that is directly applicable to many real-world scenarios.
 It offers various opportunities for revolution, such as personalized user
experiences, integration with various payment systems, and unique product
display methods.
 E-commerce enables businesses to reach a global audience, breaking down
geographical barriers and expanding their market beyond local or regional
limitations.
