Question 1 20 marks
A factory manufactures and sells children's play boxes. After the
manufacture and sale of x hundreds of play boxes, the profit made in one
month is expressed, in euros, by

𝑃(𝑥) = −10𝑥 + 900𝑥 – 2610, 0 < 𝑥 ≤ 87

a) Calculate the profit for the production and sale of 20 hundred play
boxes. 1

b) Calculate how many play boxes need to be manufactured and sold

so that the company has profit of 12 hundred euros. 2

c) Calculate after how many play boxes manufactured and sold the
company is profitable. 2

d) Calculate 𝑃′(𝑥).
2
e) Calculate 𝑃′(10) and explain the meaning in the context of the
problem. 2

f) Draw a sign table of the variations of 𝑃′(𝑥) in the given interval.

3
g) Find for what number of play boxes manufactured and sold gives the
maximum profit made by this factory? Give the value, in euros, of the
maximum monthly profit. 2

h) Find on what interval(s) the profit is increasing and decreasing?

3
i) Determine the tangent line to 𝑃(𝑥) at 𝑥 = 20.

large commercial airplanes rather than smaller
private planes. Suppose a random sample of 500
passengers is selected for further analysis.

a) Explain why the situation described can be modelled as a binomial 3

probability distribution and state its parameters.
b) Calculate the expected number of passengers in the sample who prefer to 2
fly in large commercial planes.
c) Calculate the probability that exactly 350 passengers in the sample prefer 2
to fly in large commercial airplanes.
3
d) Calculate the probability that between 200 and 300 passengers prefer to
